welcome
This site aims to provide information for those living in Beijing, or thinking about moving to Beijing, and for people
with an interest in Chinese language or culture. It's mostly finished now, though I hope to update and add as times goes on.
latest and upcoming
(14/11/03) Why no updates for so long? I've been working on another site, China-teachers.com, which aims to provide information to new and prospective foreign teachers. Also, the Chinese Language and Culture Forums continue to take up a fair amount of my time.
(23/09/03) Added a few pages about the HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) Exam, a test of Chinese for foreigners. There's an introduction to the HSK and also more specific information on the HSK Foundation and the HSK Elementary / Intermediate exam. These can be considered first drafts at the moment - comments appreciated.
(16/08/03) Added (small, badly taken) photos of my new Beijing apartment to the Chinese housing in Beijing page.
(13/08/03) Two fairly large changes today. The noticable one is that there are now many more Amazon links on the site. As I say elsewhere, this site is never going to make a profit, but if I can make a little cash with some well-chosen books, why not. Have a look and see what you think. I've also made some significant changes to the way I produce the pages - nothing you will notice, but it will make adding in new pages a lot easier for me.
(05/08/03) New addition in the anecdotes about living in China section. I'd also like to remind you about the Chinese Language and Culture Forum in case any of you haven't yet gone along and had a look . . .
(03/08/03) You can now download (for now, anyway) a Chinese song, Tian Heihei, by Sun Yanzi from here and also get the lyrics in characters and pinyin - along with an English translation.
(02/08/03) The page in the accommodation section dealing with standard Chinese housing in Beijing has been updated to take account of my recent move, and also because the new academic year will soon see a new influx of foreign students living in Beijing - not to mention looking for accomodation. Photos of my new flat will follow, once I get an English version of Photoshop installed.
(24/07/03) I've added a page for a Chinese teacher in Beijing, Kristina He. Have a look if you are planning to study Chinese while you are here living in Beijing.
Also, the diary is now pretty much dead - I just haven't got time to update it at the moment.
(10/07/03) I accidentally uploaded my work's index page to the wrong ftp server yesterday, meaning that anyone trying to get this page actually got to read about my school, all in Chinese. Apologies to any of you who were confused, and if you are reading this then it's all fixed now.
(02/06/03) New translation of a Chinese short story, City Life is a story of bicycle politics and tower block living in Beijing.
(24/05/03) Forums for discussing Chinese language and Culture are now up and running. Hopefully they'll stay that way. There is also a new small and exclusive links section
(12/05/03) Quite a few changes today. First of all there is now a recommended reading section under culture, just so you know what you should be reading. I've also added in a few more Chinese textbooks, though they are all ones unavailable outside of China. There's a new Chinese movies and music section which is very small at the moment, but I hope to expand it soonish. I've also fulfilled a slightly drunken promise and given Paul of Paul's Oasis in Chengdu his very own webpage. Finally, I managed to get the accursed Liaoning Poisioning article completely translated, just in case anyone was desperately waiting for the conclusion.
help me
This site is in it's infancy, and if you let me know what you thought of the site, comment on content or design, or point out any problems, it will be appreciated,
The site has already gone through 3 major redesigns - two due to feedback from users (and one due to me being an idiot
and not figuring out what I was doing until I'd done it.)
I'm working on getting this site submitted to search engines and directories, but it's a slow process. In the meantime, word of mouth works - if you think someone would be interested, tell them about it.

Here it is. Use it?
