Rumour has it that Paul has relocated to Kunming, but his original place in Chengdu is still running . . .
Say these words to anyone in China who owns a backpack . . .
"Paul's Oasis"
Now watch their face. See, they start to dream, to reminisce. They remember the sofas, deep
and comfortable. They recall the conversation with people from the world over, orchestrated
by Paul, Philosopher King of Chengdu. They remember pulling a beer from the fridge, just
like they would do at home, knowing Paul trusts them to pay up at the end of the night.
They think back to the food, the pizza, the pasta, the local dishes. All reasonably priced and
lovingly prepared. And they dream of returning one day, to sink back into those sofas and those
conversations.
Sound good? Yes, of course it does. And you should go there too. And, if you go to Chengdu, you
can. And you should. And if you have one beer too many, you may even promise to make Paul his
very own web page, and to host it on your site too. And you'll probably tell him you'll put
some photos on there too, and make sure that the address is nice and clear so people can find it.
I know I did.
So, to cut to the chase - Paul's Oasis, great place, great food, great people, great location.
It's no longer on the north of the river opposite the Traffic Hotel, its relocated to the
older part of town and now has a great courtyard atmosphere. How to get there? That's a little
tricky, it's not the best signposted part of town. However, it's next door to the Dragon Town
Hostel, and if you don't know where that is, then get hold of a map and head for the yellow
part just to the left of the centre, north of People's Park.
Enjoy.
