roddy Posted January 22, 2017 at 07:33 PM Report Share Posted January 22, 2017 at 07:33 PM Hopefully next week I'm going to be switching us over to HTTPS, which means everything between your browser and the server is encrypted and so, eg, your passwords are more secure. I'm wondering if this might cause problems for people behind various internet filters - not just the Great Firewall, but also (Chinese) campus networks. If the site suddenly disappears or something, drop me a line at admin@chinese-forums.com You can switch to https currently by changing the address in your browser if you want to test it, but it won't persist when you click links and you might get warnings about insecure images.

All looks good as far as I can see - anyone noticing any problems* *apart from a brief 15 second period where you were all redirected to example.com
Mati1 Posted January 23, 2017 at 04:58 PM Report Share Posted January 23, 2017 at 04:58 PM While I am totally for secure connections, especially when personal data might be involved, I can not approve that the board just ate the post I wrote in another thread (and forgot to copy), because of you restarting the server haha I know, I know, my own fault. I am actually used to copy text before sending it because that has always been a problem on the Internet.
roddy Posted January 23, 2017 at 05:00 PM Author Report Share Posted January 23, 2017 at 05:00 PM Sorry Mati! One change - any unsecure offsite images (ie http://www.yoursite.com/holidayphoto.jpg) will now be saved on our server as https://www.chinese-forums.com/holidayphoto.jpg. That'll be cached for seven days, so any changes you made to the photo wouldn't be reflected. I can't see that'll be a problem.
