Peking University for International students

Is it true that even being an international student we have to come in person to submit our application? and we have another choice which is to entrust someone in Beijing.

How about the student who is living abroad but can neither come to Beijing nor has someone living in Beijing?

I believe applications must be submitted "by hand" only for the undergraduate degree (or pre-college) programs. You do not need to apply in person for non-degree language courses.

If you're an independent student, you must have a guarantor who is a Beijing resident, however.

If you don't have a guarantor -- and especially if you are currently a student -- your best bet might be to apply through an exchange program at a school / university abroad, instead of directly to PKU. The school you enroll through doesn't necessarily have to be the school you're currently attending (if any.)

Otherwise, call the them up and see if there are other alternatives available (such as transferring money to a Chinese bank to be held in lieu of a guarantor.) Or, apply to a different Chinese university with more sane application requirements.

Do NOT send any money through the mail.

When I applied to BNU to study Mandarin they asked for a Guarantee. I put my Dad's name down and just made up an address in Beijing. I dont think the person actually needed to be in China and in fact other people who applied to BNU simply left that part of the application form blank. You're gonna pay in cash before term starts, anyway.

BNU and PKU are two very different universities.

BNU does not require a guarantor in China. PKU requires not only the guarantor is in China but specifically resides in Beijing.

It might be possible for individual applicants to proceed without a guarantor, but as mentioned above I'd give them a call before leaving fields blank or making up fake addresses.

Hello,

I am a recent graduate from University of Toronto and just came back from Canada. I rent an apartment at the west entrance of Renmin University and I'd like to have a roommate to share it with me. It's only three bus stops from Peking University, a very clean and quiet place. If you're interested in living nearby, you can find my post "Anyone who wants to live near Beijing University(Peking University" ..." . If you want to try to live with Chinese community and have a Chinese female friend to make your journey more interesting and easier, you may contact me.
