I was wondering if anybody has experience of studing chinese at Bincai college in Harbin. Ive spoken to them and been to their website and it looks quite good. In the end I didn't enroll there, because I there were not any courses that fit my schedule, but the offices and classrooms seem very clean and modern, and the receptionist was polite and helpful. There's also another private school down the street from Bin Cai, called Jiazhong, which is much bigger, so you could also check there for more course offerings. Of course, because they are basically in the same location, there are a lot of small shops, etc. which are accustomed to students. If you don't have a problem with a visa and don't need a "large university" diploma at the end, then it should be as good a choice as many others. I attend HIT, btw. I've done a bit of research on Naver.com (the Korean version of Google) and this school seems popular amongst Koreans. I think it is probably "the Korean school" in Harbin that some people have alluded to in the past, in which case I'd very much be interested in any info. They have a website (http://hskchina.com) with photos of the school and dorm, but it's hard to navigate as my Korean is not very strong. And compare with other private Chinese language schools, it can help you apply for Chinese visa there. But just remind you one thing, the living cost from Bincai is very expensive. One of my students there living in the same block with other Bincai students who living in the Hall of reisdents of Bincai. You can sign up for as long as you want & can start classes at a later date, you don't have to start classes during this period. Four hours of class and an hour and a half tutor lesson a day (five days a week) will only cost 700RMB during this period. Classes have between 3-8 students. It's a pretty good deal. It's hard getting on-the-ground info from overseas! Quick background: I've been here for just about 11 months, the first semester of which spent at HIT (Ha Gong Da university which is just around the corner) after which I registered at Bincai for the summer break and decided to stay on for the next term and winter as well (Imma be here up to end May) Personally I've had classes (2 hours each daily) in conversation, listening comprehension, HSK and news reading. My experience has been that I arrive, state my preferred textbook/area of interest, they contact me once they open a class, which follows a really fluid schedule because they start once 3 students have professed interest and a teacher is available, and then it's a go. Once I started I got to know classmates with the same level and we just kept moving onto courses we were all interested in. I would describe learning at Bincai as really incredibly efficient, because it's regularly-held small classes daily, one coursebook at a time. On average 4 or 5 people attend class and the teacher pays close attention to everyone. I would say consider Bincai since you've got a specific goal in mind, and you want to attend regular daily classes. I've noticed myself and fellow classmates improving rapidly in this environment.
