ZDT Java Development

This is a great piece of software and I'd like to start implementing/updating/fixing some features in my spare time. I've already downloaded the source code and finished my first new feature (color coding tones in the definition test) to reacquaint myself with RCP.

Anyway, the development guide has been a great help, unfortunately it looks like it was never finished.

Here is my question: Does anyone know how this application is bundled into the executable? It's all fine and good that I can run the new code from Eclipse but how is the standalone deployable created? IZPack?

Once I have this figured out, I can start pushing out new versions for people to download.

Many thanks!

I have the same problem here. I can run it from Eclipse, but I can't make a package of ZDT or one of its plugin to work.

I've tried the Eclipse export wizard, but ZDT crashes at runtime.

Is it possible to update the development guide? At least a tutorial to explain how to build ZDT from source would be nice.

No problem at all for me. I could modify the cedict plugin in order to update its entries. I could export it as a new version as well.

Why don't you get involved with the development and add your updates to the program?

I don't know any programming and rarely use ZDT.

And for some reason it's very slow for me.

It takes about 3 seconds for it to parse a bit of text while CQuickTrans, a freeware program (formerly shareware) does it in an instant.

I don't know if it's because Java is particularly slow or what.

I usually use CQuickTrans because it's easy to update the dictionary and it's really easy to add your own personal vocabulary list.

The only thing I liked about ZDT is the browser feature.

But then it's a crippled browser. No home page. No tabs.

I usually have my regular browser set to a home page I wrote myself in html that I keep on my hard drive. Full of links to the sites I visit most often.

I did get around the home page thing by inputting its url address into the address bar and it does remember the url in the pull down thing but it's not as convenient as a home page button on the top would be.

And I kind of got around the tab thing by writing an html file with frames. A frame for each url but it's nowhere as convenient as having tabs. And you can only have so many frames before it gets unmanageable.

I contacted already the whole developer list of ZDT at sourceforge but nobody replied me until now.

Slow? As for me, it's only slow when I start up ZDT. It may take 3-5 seconds. Dictionary lookup's are normally less than a second.

Nevertheless, I may upgrade the underlying database engine. The newest version is quite some version numbers higher than the database engine used by ZDT. This might speed up things as well.
