The DLI (US Defense Language Institute) materials for Chinese have recently been placed on the net (unofficially but apparently legally) for download as follows:

(Flamric is the intermediate course):

The VERY extensive Mandarin materials are similar to, or based on, the FSI course materials, but are organized a bit differently, and also include materials for reading and writing. I haven't compared the Cantonese materials with their FSI counterparts.

Has anyone downloaded this and seen if it is legit or not. Maybe I will be the test rat and see if my computer is plagued with viruses or will have a large hole that the world can see into.
Will tell later on how it went.

I downloaded the intermediate level stuff as the original text explains. Old, old stuff. Just go to the Iowa site for much better quality. Or stick to those books, something New Practical Reader.
Plus has to be printed out. Not any good IMHO.

There has been lengthy discussions about it elsewhere. The concensus is yes, it is legal, b/c gov't docs revert to the public domain. Onebir can comment maybe.(if memory serves)
