Renren.com is a Facebook clone. If you like Facebook and want to improve your Chinese you might as well get on Renren.

I just noticed recently that if you click 探索 (explore) on the top bar of Renren, you get a pinterest-style flood of images, text videos etc to check out. If you 'like' something, Renren will provide you with more of this type of content in the future (in theory, I don't know how well this works).

In the top right-hand corner, you can set up 话题 (basically tagged topics). I set up one for 'Mandarin' and there are currently no results. I set up one for 中文 and there are a few results.

So... if people start posting content on Renren with 中文 in the title, pretty pictures and text that is useful for learners of Chinese this could be massive!

Yeah!Renren is a great tool for you to learn chinese and make new chinese friends and you can also learn more things from there like in FACEBOOK.

Before encouraging us to invest our time in a Pinterest clone, it might help if you explain why you think Pinterest itself is good. I know it's become very popular all of a sudden, but I don't understand it all.

Feihong, the amazing thing about the internet is that tiny differences in the way social media sites work can generate millions or even billions of dollars.  The big difference with pinterest is that you don't have to follow someone to get a glimpse of their content. So for a business that has just launched a really eye-grabbing product, it's an incredibly effective way of drawing visitors to their site. Pinterest is very visual, it's just an almost infinite wall of attractive images to draw you in to read content about any topic - though largely food and home decoration at present. If you've looked at it and are not interested, there's not a great deal I can say to change your mind. However, I would say that I literally could not understand the point of Twitter at first. So, it's just like a blog but shorter??

I was always wondering what is more popular in China - Kaixinwang or Renren. Does renren cater to another kind of people than Kaixin?
I find it very strange that two social networks could exist at the same time in a country and be successful, unless having distinctly different target groups (facebook - linked).
Anyone knows?

There is story about renren and kaixin,Long time ago renren just open to the students,I know it form my roomate when I in college,At that its name is xiaoneiwang校内网，I can find many classmates at there who are in my primary school,middle school and high school,Nearly all the users use real name,you just need to sarch your classmates name and school you will find them if they have xiaoneiwen account, Xiaoneiwang grew up quickly based on this specially function,and in 4th August 2009 xiaoneiwang changed its name to renren,I think they wanna more users attend this group,If you want to know more about it ask uncle google .

kaixin I don't always use it but many of my colleagues use it,Its most famous fuction is its games,Around three years ago there is a verrrrry popular steal vegetable game in China and it supply by kaixinwang,Many office workers play it in their free time and some also play during work time,Very crazy!So more and more office workers knew kaixinwang from their friends or colleagues,and then they regist kaixin accounts,So most of the kaixinwang's users are workers,and some of them don't use the real name.

I've been told similar by friends in different age groups - those Chinese in their late twenties or older primarily use Kaixinwang, whereas those that are younger primarily use Renren. Now that you mention Renren used to be restricted to students, it makes sense why there is this divide. I personally use Kaixinwang because when I was interested in signing up Renren seemed to have more onerous requirements on real names and didn't like my supplied Chinese name - so I said forget it.

I can't seem to figure out how to make things appear on the 探索 page though. I uploaded a picture with 中文 in the title but when I search for 中文 content it doesn't show up....
