Anyway, if you can increase your budget to around 5000 you'll be much better off, and more likely to get a suit you can to keep for its full life. If not, buy off the rack and get alterations. He makes the suits himself, the shirts are made in factories outside of Beijing where pretty much all the tailors by from, so the quality should be the same in most places. For the suits, with him you can get one for 800-1200 CNY depending on what you get. Getting new fittings, repairs etc is no problem and he is very nice and helfpul. That being said, those suits are not made for life, especially check the buttons and zipper, in the past I have had them come off after a few years of use. If you are in Beijing he will repair it for you, if you are not, well for that price getting a well tailored suit I find a very good deal, even if I cannot wear it all my life. @Hofmann: do you have any experience with the tailors listed there? No. The only Chinese (half) suit I have experience with is a jacket I ordered from Modern Tailor. I already had a well-fitting jacket so I just copied those measurements and sent it to them. The first jacket they sent me had some funny material that would have light-colored fibers sticking out of what was supposed to be navy wool, so I emailed them and they discontinued that material and replaced it with another material I chose. how to know that it is an amazing suit for life? If it fits, it's 100% wool, and it doesn't have fused canvasses, then it doesn't suck. If it also has reasonable button stance, lapel widths, and styling to your tastes, then it's a good suit. If you know where the old heavens bar was (until last year), it is right behind (North) of it, has a pretty big blue sign on top of the shop.
