Pardon? Sorry?

Maybe this might be the sort of thing you are looking for.

wo mei ting qing

我没听请

I not hear clearly.

Sorry is

dui bu qi

对不起

or there is this

对不起, 请你再讲一遍好吗?

dui bu qi, qing ni zai jiang yi bian hao ma?

Excuse me (or I beg your pardon) but would you repeat what you said?

Hope this helps.

Remember I am still learning, so check this before relying on it.

You usually just say 'Huh?' Not sure what the character is. This is considered very impolite where I come from, but completely normal in China. If you want to say more, you can also use 请再说一遍 or 请你再说一遍, 'Could you repeat that please?'

Don't say 对不起, that's not used in this context. 对不起 and 不好意思 are more for when you have actually wronged the other person.

Interesting, I took the last sentence straight from Pleco.

Is it like this with all Chinese people -  not using sorry the way we do in English?

As a non native Chinese speaker would they understand what you mean or would it be really the wrong thing to say?

If so I wonder why it is an example sentence in Pleco?

Just turn your ears to the speaker and make a "what?" face or simply say "什么?" / "啥" will do the job.

To say "哈?"、"啊?" to someone may make him feel unpleasant, but should achieve the same purpose.

To say "不好意思,再说一遍好吗?" “不好意思,我没听清" is the decent way to do this.

I had a classmate back at BLCU who, her Chinese not being very good yet, would say 对不起 a lot when on the phone with her language partner. This mostly confused the language partner, who didn't understand what she was so sorry about.

Actually Shelley and Arrow are right, you can use it as 对不起/不好意思,请你再说一遍, but not by itself.
