Hello

Which model is it. I went and  looked at some reviews and tech help on line but you need the exact model to make sense of it all.

I am absolutely no good with macs, but someone else might be able to help.

Thanks Shelley, it's the wireless bamboo pad that looks like & is the same size as the apple trackpad, actually since this post i am starting to get used to it, I have done the skritter demo twice now & might sign up.

thanks again

ian

ah yes I saw that, looks sweet, glad you are getting on with it. As with all these things sometimes it just takes getting used to.

I have one of those wireless Logitech m600 mice with no buttons and touch sensitive top, took a couple of days to get used to but now ordinary mice seem  clunky.

I would love to see someone on the forum someday compare the use of a Wacom tablet (I think this is the one you're using, isn't it ianwat?) with an iPad, or an Android device like a Google Nexus 10, as a platform mainly for using Skritter. In the back of my mind, though I can't afford it now, I want to splurge someday on skritter, and I don't want to use it with a mouse on my computer when I do. I'll want to get an iPad, or a Nexus 10, or minimally get something like a Wacom tablet. I've seen a comparison of devices for using Skritter, but I don't think it's current.

I have both a wacom tablet with pen on my pc and an android tablet. i prefer using the android tablet over the wacom.

There just seems to be a better feel using the android tablet. You draw direct on the surface as if it were paper and pen, with the wacom you write over to your left/right somewhere and ahead of you on your pc screen the result appears. it feels disconnected.

I also feel it is better at making the "automatic" muscle movements that were discussed in another topic earlier this year.

I tried Skritter awhile ago with my pc but didn't really get into it, but then in May I got my new android tablet that has access to the playstore and was fortunate enough to get a voucher for a free summer of skritter and have really got on well with it.

@ianwat I don't know if there any left but its worth asking, go to the free summer of skitter topic and ask if there are any vouchers left. The offer may be closed, but I don't know.

I also would add if you get a iOS or android tablet you will also have the opportunity to add Pleco to your Chinese learning tools. I would recommend Pleco highly. Reasonable price if you go for the basic bundle with handwriting, stroke, and reader addons.

IMHO these two apps make owing a tablet for Chinese well worth it.

So for me it android/iOS tablet over wacom tablet.

Thanks Shelley for telling me your experience. Interesting. My budget is so tight at the moment, that I might be forced to go with the wacom tablet first, just to dip my toe in the skritter water, so to speak. I use Photoshop, and Illustrator (though I'm still a rookie) and have wanted a wacom tablet for a while to use with them...so this might serve a dual purpose until I can afford to get an android tablet.

That's a good plan, at least you have a few uses for it,

Remember these days android tablets can be bought relatively cheaply secondhand. I bought mine second hand, its 9" and a bit in size, running 4.0.3. works well and I can do all the things i want to on it.

Hello Botterli, I tried a pen with my android tablet, I don't know if its cos I bought a cheap one but its not as good as my finger which is free :)

I did want one with a finer tip than my finger but they all seem to be just about the same size. I still have it but hardly use it now. I can image situations where it might be useful so I keep it with the tablet just in case.

The name on the pen is Port Designs its the same make as the tablet case and that is very good, I bought the case first and as was quite good I went for the pen by the same people.

If i found one with a fine point I might try it but to be honest i have got used to using my finger now.

Are aware that if you want to show appreciation for help from someone you can up vote them with the green arrow next to the word helpful at the bottom right of their post? No pressure just checking you knew :)
