This is a friend's tattoo: https://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20140817095613AAfAGRr

I was told that the middle three symbol's spell the name Cyril. And the symbols down the left mean friendship and the symbols down the right mean good fortune, however I'm not convinced. There may be the name Charlotte in there possibly?

Thank you

The right-hand column says "Cyril" in Japanese but for some unknown reason there's an extra katakana syllable tacked on at the end which says "ka". The left-hand column indeed says "Charlotte" in Japanese, however the prolonged sound mark (長音符号) is oriented the wrong way (horizontally instead of vertically). The three Chinese characters in the center (read top to bottom) are "beauty", "love" & "luck".
