As a beginner whose Mandarin study method is largely watching movies, I sometimes spend a long time trying to figure out what language a film is actually in before purchasing and downloading it. Often, IMDb, Wikipedia, and other sources list a movie in various languages, which is confusing. So I'm hoping to get some help on this forum. I'll really truly appreciate it! And I hope others will also benefit from the clarifications. So here's the first question. If I download Dragon (Wu Xia) from Amazon, will it be in Mandarin or Cantonese? Or either could be the original one and the other only the dubbed version. In any ways, if you download it from the web, there is no real way to be sure which language it will be for sure. My Mandarin is so basic that I watched the trailer and wasn't sure. I did pick out a few words, but I know there are some shared words between Mandarin and Cantonese. Silent, you would definitely think they would include that information, but they don't! I'm not sure I would completely trust their customer service on this ... Don't know why you would not trust them about it (sadly I do know considering the quality of the average customer service) but they should provide this info or otherwise be hassled about it. If such basic info is not available what's the advantage over a torrent download? With torrents you at least don't lose money over a bad gamble. Amazon customer service is comparatively good, I'm just not sure I would trust their answers on this specific question. I'm not sure these paid downloads have a big advantage over torrents, but I use them anyway.
