Death Notices (Shanghai). Looking for friend.

Hi

I know this is an unusual question but I am urgently looking for my friend who went for an operation some time ago and I haven't heard from her since.  I'm worried that the operation went wrong and she may have died.  Is there any way to search death notices for people living in Shanghai?  Is there somewhere I can do this?

I'm starting to become really concerned.

Thanks

I had a similar experience and only discovered the sad news by a web search. But that was exceptional. In general, you need to make some subtle inquiries among her circle of friends, colleagues, classmates and family. It can be awkward to raise this with those very close to her, so best to start on the edge of the circle.

I'm not sure what "death notices" you're referring to. No doubt the PSB keeps records for ID card/hukou purposes, but I'd be surprised if these are publicly available. In China, you need an intermediary to help with a great many things, and this is one of them. In effect, you need to ask the neighbours.

If you have her Chinese name and if it's not too common a one, then you might possibly though not too likely come across a mention on a Chinese blog, alumni site, etc.
