count_zero Posted November 28, 2016 at 03:25 AM Report Share Posted November 28, 2016 at 03:25 AM I'm usually a few years behind technological innovations. But I've started using this WeChat group to learn Chinese: http://imgur.com/a/EGM6E Pictures, videos, bilingual content, chatting, asking questions, answering questions. Now I'm up till 1am reading Chinese and learning. It's like crack cocaine or something. Any other groups out there?
Angelina Posted November 28, 2016 at 03:30 AM Report Share Posted November 28, 2016 at 03:30 AM Of course, there are so many groups. I have also discovered 微信运动. This is for Chinese people learning English, they can pay if they want to support the account. Many other groups and accounts. http://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/-g_AMHvcJvOo22lnq5E7Xw
count_zero Posted November 30, 2016 at 10:44 AM Author Report Share Posted November 30, 2016 at 10:44 AM Ok, I've added that one. Really I meant WeChat group chats, though. I'm looking for some that are of interest to foreigners in China. So, Chinese language learning, or anything that attracts both Chinese and foreign users. I'm sure there's stuff out there that I don't even know I would like!
Shelley Posted November 30, 2016 at 10:59 AM Report Share Posted November 30, 2016 at 10:59 AM I had a look and was totally at a loss as to how find these groups. I have had wechat for ages, but have not really used it for much more than reading the news from CCTV and China Daily. I also read Learn Chinese articles. Anyone able to guide a newbie through the ins and outs of getting more out of wechat? I was confused as to what to do/how use the one the OP suggests. Angelina Posted November 30, 2016 at 01:17 PM Report Share Posted November 30, 2016 at 01:17 PM Groups are a bit personal and you join or make groups if you are in China. Official accounts are better for people outside of China where you don't ask for a WeChat account instead of a phone number. I read a lot there. Personal favorite is 《机器之心》 Also, important news on legislation: http://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/70F2S02A8LV__avqI_hhwA 英国通过监控法,记录用户上网历史将合法化 http://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/Zk_3ceHMiKGmjBKlRmU97w
Shelley Posted November 30, 2016 at 04:04 PM Report Share Posted November 30, 2016 at 04:04 PM Oh ok thanks Angelina, it makes sense.
Angelina Posted November 30, 2016 at 06:43 PM Report Share Posted November 30, 2016 at 06:43 PM The part about phone numbers is confusing. I meant to say that in China a WeChat account is like a phone number, when you meet people you get their WeChat if you want to stay in touch. You can join groups if you are not in China, but WeChat is probably not as an integral part of your life as it is in China. It is easier to follow official accounts because this is public. Shelley Posted December 3, 2016 at 02:55 PM Report Share Posted December 3, 2016 at 02:55 PM That means I will have to find a QR code reader that works. i have had very poor results using these things.
Angelina Posted December 3, 2016 at 06:19 PM Report Share Posted December 3, 2016 at 06:19 PM If you are reading this from a computer, scan the code using your phone. If you are reading this from a phone/tablet, save the photo. Then press + when you open WeChat and select scan. When it starts scanning click on the three vertical dots (top right corner) and select photo album. I tried but I am not interested in this particular group. Angelina Posted December 4, 2016 at 01:33 AM Report Share Posted December 4, 2016 at 01:33 AM Yes. If your tablet has at least one camera to use as a scanner. Open WeChat, press +, then scan. If your tablet has no camera, try the three dots described in the post above. Try this QR code:
Angelina Posted December 4, 2016 at 02:37 AM Report Share Posted December 4, 2016 at 02:37 AM Here is how WeChat official accounts are used by Chinese learners of English. Same could be done for learning Chinese. https://www.evernote.com/l/AT-iol1ReDBPq4N2wA6O4BnWFIsc6P6x4Kg
