I don't read very much science fiction so I don't have anything to compare it with. I picked it up because I wanted to practice reading and because its "hard science" was said to be solid. I found some of the "science" implausible, such as Spoiler using the sun as an electromagnetic amplifier and Spoiler three or four (including the planet) bodies falling around each other without dying or falling apart. so if this is considered "hard" science fiction then the general state of the industry is probably trash. This sounded completely plausible to me actually. And there is in fact a stellar system with three stars turning around each other, although the existing one is stable, unlike the one in 三体.
