You will find this transcript helpful if:
1. You are a visual learner.
2. Learning to read is just as important to you as learning to speak it.
3. You don’t want to rely on pinyin.
4. You prefer a syllable-for-syllable transcript of what you’re hearing.

I was going to PM you these notes, but figured I'd bump this thread since I think your work is great...

I reviewed lessons 15 and 16:

154, 163-164: I think gen1 should be gei3
171: 4th line from bottom, shi2 should be shi4

But, please don't waste time fixing these....please keep working on lessons 22+ :D

Excellent work!

It would be very time-consuming but it seems that vocabulary is very low. They repeat same words over and over again. I seriously doubt that you can learn Chinese beyond very basic with Pimsleur, you can show off some pronunication though by saying simple phrases like 茶是给你的。

Thank you Singularity. Changes noted.
Let me know if you see anything in the next section I've posted...

You're right atitarev. I think the idea of Pimsleur is to give you enough information to enjoy your vacation in the country that speaks the language you're studying. As someone pointed out elsewhere on the site, Pimsleur I - III only teaches about 500 words or so. At the same time, learning to read those 500 words can be very helpful as most are frequently used.

Actually...they are finished.

I thought I posted them but it was about 1130 at night so...I guess I didn't.

No worries. I'll do it when I get home tonight!

I know how much work it is to type this in, I admire your effort and this is really helpful for beginners (if you really master those 500 words, that's excellent) but as it is so time-consuming, for your own benefit, wouldn't it be better to work on a more advanced Chinese resource? There are so many books for beginners where you have both audio and text, and Pimsleur is only one of them but not enough intermediate and advanced material.

BTW, I also worked on a similar things, (if only to mention Mandarin), like converted a fully pinyinised text into a Chinese character text - Teach Yourself Beginner's Chinese. It was a good excercise but I find it more rewarding to try to transcribe a Chinese movie, for example (I only started).

Again atitarev, no arguments with you there.
There are undoubtedly better ways to learn.

I just consder transcribing a hobby. I started transcribing Mandarin when I worked as a receptionist/admin. assistant because my job was so boring. I figured I'd share them. Why let so many hours of work go to waste? I don't think I'm quite so hardcore as to go for things like movies, which are spoken at normal conversational speed.

Knowing my own learning style, I don't think anything short of living in China will be an effective method for more advanced learning so, in essence, I'm merely entertaining myself until I'm able to visit the Mainland.

Actually, I have been plodding along on the second series. Transcribing is one thing. Going back over the lessons to edit them is quite another.

If anyone wants to volunteer to edit, :help I'm open to that. Even so, I'll be lucky to finish one lesson a week 'cause I've got a lot going on...

Maybe my wordlist for I, II + III helps a little too. I don't the starting and end sentences since they can be found plentyfull on the web.

Thank you for the transcripts. Even though I am just beginning, I am certain these will be useful to me .

On the side of the last PDF I noticed a sidebar that said something about leaving a tip or a shout out some where....

Since I haven't printed these out perhaps you could explain. If it is part of a contest, I'd be glad to give you a thumbs-up.

For anyone using Taryn's transcripts, here are some potential corrections (I also emailed her directly):

Lesson 16

:30 在听一次 在 should be 再 (this is done elsewhere too - I won't list more)
1:30 跟你的 should be 给你的
2:30 是不是我的? missing 给?
2:30 是跟你的 should be 是给你的
12:10 tone for 十 should be should be rising, not falling
17:40 给我四十七快人民币 快 should be 块
24:30 -- 八加五十多少? 十 should be 是
24:40 -- 十一加四十多少? second 十 should be 是

Lesson 17
1:00 给我有一点儿钱。好不好? 有 seems extra?
2:00 same as previous
17:00 你有不有美金给我? 不 should be 没?
23:00 -- 喏,三十块人民。是三十块人民币吗? missing 币 at end of 1st sentence?
24:00 again, missing 币?
27:00 你会不会普通话? missing 说?
28:30 给我六十一快人民币 快 should be 块

Lesson 18
4:00 我有四十块人民币。 missing 一?

Lesson 20
8:55 How many children do you have? 请跟这说。 这 should be 着 (again on this page, and in other lessons - I won't list them)

Lesson 21
:45 A: 我的先生在这儿。你可以等一会吗? missing 儿? (same, in repeat of conversation)
2:00 请听。 should be 请进。? (also on next line)
17:30 note: I had to listen to the episode to check this, and you correctly have what Pimsleur has for the tones on 洗手间, but I believe Pimsleur is totally wrong here (should be 331)

Lesson 22
12:30 现在着说, The children are here. 着 should be 请? (elsewhere too. I won't list others)
22:00 两千快人民币。 快 should be 块

Lesson 23
0:00 请听着段对话。 着 should be 这
0:15 A: 你们有几个儿子吗? 几 should be 两
10:30 两千三百快人民币。 快 should be 块
15:00 式式问, Is it very expensive? 式式 should be 试试 (this is done MANY other places - I won't list the others)
17:30 It isn’t very far. 怎么说?? typo - extra ?
17:35 不是很元。 元 should be 远
17:45 two and three lines down from previous, 元 should be 远
29:00 普通话, Wait one moment, 怎么说?. type - don't need ?

Lesson 24
2:00 式式问, In China, is taking the plane very expensive? "the" seems like it should be "a"?
5:00 要四十个小时。 四十 should be 十四 ?
9:10 到 should be 道
14:00 到 should be 道
14:05 Both 到 and 路 mean road. should be 道
20:00 是不是那条路? missing 左边 before 那条路
25:50 The tones are falling and falling-rising. 请说, Mandarin. first tone should be rising

Lesson 25
4:00 然后,一直前走。 missing 往?
10:00 我有八十快港币。 快 should be 块

Lesson 26
2:40 商店开门了? missing 吗?
7:20 走英王道。 王 should be 皇 (also next line)
27:30 Try to say, Please give me a few renminbi. Use 快. 快 should be 块

Lesson 27
29:20 就你个人走吗? missing 一 (next line too)

Lesson 28
3:30 问他要去那儿.—Ask where she is going to go. 那 should be 哪
4:00 在请一次, I am going to go to work. 请 should be 说?
7:20 讷,一百块人民币。 Maybe 讷 should be 喏 ?
18:05 你们要呆多久了? 了 is not needed

Lesson 29
6:30 你有要呆多久? It looks like there's an extra 有
10:00 到达 While 到达 does mean arrive, 达 is normally 2nd tone (they say falling) and since all of the sentences later use dao...de, it's very likely that all of the sentences from here, should be 到的
10:15 我们是走天到达。 走 should be 昨, and 达 should probably be 的. This appears many times in the next few lessons.

Lesson 30
2:00 我们是美国。 missing 人
8:30 你们有没有东西? missing 买?
15:00 跟我的桑格小孩儿一起。 桑格 should be 三个
16:00 我们八点钟到达。 missing 是
17:45 I think this reinforces the fact that it's 到的 and not 到达, since I think when there is a location, it would be 到达北京的, and not 到北京达. So, I think this (and all other cases) would be the shortened form of 到北京的
29:00 A: 我们几天早上去了天坛。 几 should be 今

*BUMP!*

If anyone is wondering, I finally got TarynsTranscripts back online thanks to a gracious hosting offer. :clap
I made singularty_2's edits to all of the Level 1 lessons. If anybody feels like editing Level 2, be my guest!

Great - thanks for those.

The Lesson 15 link doesnt appear to work at the moment.

By the way, for those who want to download everything at once (rather than clicking on each link), best use the DownThemAll tool.
