Hello every body,

I received Acceptance Letter from Donghua University mentioning that they are agree to accept me to study a Doctoral program at their University after examined my application material I have submitted.

I also apply for Chinese Government Scholarship which is the acceptance Letter enclosed in my application package. Any one can guess how many percent the chance to get scholarship in my situation? I also read from other sources stated that " if the scholarship applicatns accepted by Chinese Institution, they will officialy confirmed as Chinese Government Scholarship student with endorsement from Ministry of Educaton of China.

thank you for all my friends and your response are waited

@lanicaa11 i have applied for shanghai university, Shanghai normal university and Shanghai international studies.. what about you? I have studied Chinese for 4 years so this opportunity means the world to me! But i don't know how many applicants there are and what the chances of being selected are but I'm trying to be positive! :)

@kosame didn't you apply for the universities? I got the 3 pre-admission letters so that may help.

I have a question: do we need to send two copies of everything? I mean, i made a copy of all the documents and that's what I sent (I don't understand that 'to set two bounds of documents') because I even exceeded the 20 pages and if i had to send more than one copy of everything...

Hey everyone,

I am interested in being a general visiting student in Spring 2016 and indicated Peking University and Tsinghua University as my 2 choices on my CSC app, and have just received an email from my embassy (in the United States) confirming the Chinese Government Scholarship award. I am confused about the next steps as this is a general visiting student program with a start date of feb/march (spring):

1. I do have a strong preference on PKU. However, I heard that PKU doesn't take GVS2 - Chinese Government Scholarship recipients for Spring Semester entry. Was just wondering how could it be true as its website (http://www.isd.pku.edu.cn/index.php?m=content&c=index&a=show&catid=121&id=142) seems to indicate otherwise as it states that applicants can apply between Nov 1 - Nov 30 for Spring Admission? Just trying really hard to find a way to get into PKU.

2. If PKU doesn't work out and I have to apply to THU instead (which is a really great school), how does the process work for general visiting student? Its website says "After getting an "Award Letter for Chinese Government Scholarship", please complete On-line Application on the website of International Students Office, Tsinghua University (http://is.tsinghua.edu.cn) and get it verified by International Students Office. Then, the qualified applicants can contact directly to the International Students Office to get a “Certificate of Conditional Offer” if necessary."

Does that mean we apply immediately, and not wait till the normal cycle for visiting student spring admission that is between Oct 15 and Dec 15?

Thank you so much for your help! :) really appreciate it.

I feel like I picked the smallest most local school ever with Anshan Normal University.. but I really wanted a truly local Chinese experience vs a bigger city.. but Anshan is pretty large by Western standards at 3.5M or so... but by Chinese standards, smaller.

I'm also hoping that this somehow helps my chances as it's a cheaper school and there wouldn't be a lot of competition.  But who knows what really matters.. lol

@Everyone

I'm a bit confused and maybe you can help me, I applied online as a self-suported student to one of my target unis, they already checked my documents and today I've got a message that says that I need to provide my HSK 5 certificate (which I stablished I don't have) and they wrote me that I can apply for a one-year Chinese language program and later apply for my major.

I wrote to them, but I don't have an answer yet. I want to do this as fast as I can, did you have any similar experience? What did you do?

Maybe, I should re-apply for an English taught program? or maybe I shouldn't apply at all and wait for my organization's nomination for the scholarship and apply with and award letter?

Thanks a lot for your kind help.

Which school are you applying to?  Do you communicate with them in Chinese or English?  I asked a University if I needed to fulfill the HSK 6 requirement (I only have 5) to be admitted onto the program, but because I was doing it in Chinese they said it wouldn't be a problem...

Hey all!

I was awarded the scholarship late last summer (was on the waiting list) and have been living/studying in Xiamen for 6+ months now. These threads each year really helped me out so I want to give back as much as possible. If you have questions as a US student applying for the Chienese Government Scholarship (not Confucious Institute) let me know!

Biggest piece of advice: Don't stress over it too much!

When I applied last year, my first application was lost (I didn't specify someone at the Embassy on my application envelope), I notorized nothing, had an incomplete health examination form (no chest x-ray or ECC, couldn't afford it) and the second application I sent in was all photocopies because the originals for some of the things were lost in the first application. I also sent in my application after the US deadline because, again, I had to re-mail my application. But, I still was awarded a full year to study language! (And additionally, when I got to China, they somehow accepted my incomplete health exam and I avoided the 400rmb for having to re-do it all.) So the point is, do as much as you can and then just let it go and focus on other things!

I have re-applied this year to study another year of language (with no reason other than I enjoy studying Chinese) and much to my surprise, I was awarded scholarship candidacy just two weeks after submitting my application. I have since obtained a pre-admission letter from Xiamen University (where I am currently studying) and crossing my fingers. My application this year wasn't much more well put together than last year's. Incomplete health exam, only one letter of recommendation (not required for language students), a study plan with no intention of bachelor's, master's, or PhD after, and I didn't sign any pictures or notorize anything.

As the first post says, no one really seems to know what the odds are. I do have a solid academic record and good references but plenty people with equal qualifications seem to have been denied in previous years so...who knows? When I took my candidacy award letter into the XMU admissions office, she was quite surprised I had been awarded another year to study language. She told me the Chinese Government Scholarship was usually awarded to people who had never been to China at all and that the number of students receiving a second year to just study language was being reduced in 2015.

As some people have mentioned, the CSC scholarship was finally increased to 3000rmb this year. And us being lucky, they also retro-actively applied it to all the months of the school year before the switch so many of us had a nice chunk of change when we returned from Spring Festival holiday.

Applying as a US student was a bit different this year. Last year, I applied to the embassy with my three choices and separately applied to XMU. This year I applied to the embassy with XMU as my agency number and (as mentioned previously) received a candidacy award letter from the Wash DC embassy just two weeks later. I took this award letter and got a pre-admission letter from XMU which I then sent to Wash DC to complete my app. Last year, I didn't hear anything at all from Wash DC until late July due to being on the waiting list. So it's always something a little different...

ajkihn - what is your Chinese level like? If you were to sit for HSK5, is it likely that you'd pass? Tell them that you intend to sit for the exams soon, e.g. on May and that you will send them your certificate as soon as you receive it, or during registration. Some universities are willing to accept the HSK registration receipt as proof that you intend to sit for the exams very soon.
