Chinese School in South Beijing outside the 5th ring.

Hello everyone,

I live in QingYunDian south of Beijing outside the 6th ring.  I need to find some Chinese lessons but most schools are close to the middle of Beijing that would take me about 3 hours in public transport to get to.  Does anyone know of a good school or teachers south of Beijing, hopefully outside the 5th ring.  I am looking for intensive classes.

Erik

You can probably find a private teacher for about 50RMB per hour - especially out where you are. Maybe not some super qualified teacher but still can be decent enough. At the end of the day all you really need is to listen to a lot of native Chinese spoken at a level where you can understand most of it and you're set.

Professional and experienced Chinese teachers you will only find in places where a lot of people study Mandarin and someone makes teaching Chinese their career (and currently even in places where a lot of people study Mandarin most people teaching will do so not as long term full careers unfortunately).

However three hours to get there (is that even still part of Beijing? ) is obviously too long and as suggested above you should be able to find a tutor who can help you with learning Chinese.

With a tutor, I would suggest following a standard text book like 口语速成汉语 or the New Practical Reader to give the classes some structure.

Even though when the teaching quality there is maybe not that great, you should have loads of opportunities to speak Mandarin (I suspect not many other foreigners live where you live....), so just immerse yourself into the Chinese language environment, refuse to speak English to people who want to practice their English with you and you should progress very fast.

Yeah, I know right, seems to be pretty far away.  But I am officially in Beijing in the south side of the DaXing district, with a car I normally make it in 1 hour to the center of Beijing and in public transport close to 3...  So let me ask just one more question.   Is there a good store in Beijing where I can just walk in and purchase these?
