@Adedapo

Yes I have heard from them my brother. I spoke with my friend there yesterday but there is nothing new yet,  he said the same thing they have been saying 'we are waiting for CSC to give us the final result, but we are sure you will make it'

@MaryS@3777MS

I applied for a master in international relations as to be taught in English.

As far as I know, in my country, Thailand, we still haven't heard anything from SDU about CSC winners. Although they have informed some of us who applied for a Confucius Institute Scholarship for Master Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages.

As far as I know, full scholarship only covers tuition + accommodation + living expenses. If there are no special agreements between Chinese and your country's government, visa fee will not be waived. Furthermore I think you will need to change your visa for a residence permit after you come to China, it costs another 600 RMB or so. At least that used to be practice few years ago. And if you did not have finish your physical examination or if the results are not valid anymore, add some more money to final amount you'll need. And vaccinations costs something too (I personally recommend to get vaccinated). And of course air ticket is not covered too. And several years ago they wanted us to have additional insurance from our home countries, but I've heard they do not require it anymore.

Yup, studying in China, on the contrary to common belief, is not that cheap if you don't come from really rich country/family.

@tomzuklin

I think you speak the truth in your words above--all of that seems pretty accurate since the last time I checked.

Indeed, lots of start-up costs that one must pay out of pocket in getting here and getting setting up here (visa! airfare! transport! things for the dorm room! health check? visa transfer to residence permit!), none of those things are cheap.

I plan to keep my costs low and milk that 3,000 (and 2,500 and 3,500 for others) once settled in--even if I'm in Beijing. I hope to spend very little.

Warm regards,

Same here.

"CSC will inform me in Mid July."

Hope it really means mid-July and not second half/late July.

@LaszloBalogh

Where did you hear/see this? But I agree, I also hope "mid" means around July 15th and not in the second half/late July like last year (July 28th for those who applied through the Chinese Embassy in the U.S.!).

Warm regards,

Today...June 30th where I currently sit.

Coming up next...July.

For us CSC race car drivers, is the checkered flag in sight? I hope so.

Continued patience for us, hang in there everybody, July is upon us! Take a deep breath and get those inboxes ready!

Warm regards,

I just called the school and they say they have accepted me, forwarded the documents and expect me to be granted the scholarship ("一般没有问题"). They told me that I would be unable to enter Hangzhou until September 8th should I choose to attend due to the G20. Also, stipends for living off campus will be decided upon arrival based on demand.

Quite relieved to finally have some update! Still feel trepidation towards the scholarship itself, but at least I now know whether I've gotten into the school!

@ Alex_Hart

I emailed Mr. Tang in Zheda and he replied that I have been nominated as CSC scholarship candidate. He also wrote: " List of scholarship awardees is supposed to be announced in late July after final approval by CSC".

I hope getting the CSC acceptance won't be a problem.

Good luck to you too Alex  :D

I applied for English-taught master in international relations as well :)

Oh, actually, what about your Laihua status in both Unis. Is there any changes ?

In any case, the only way to as is to wait patiently and to pay attention to their official website and our emails

@ All

My Fear is centered around my passport. I have a new int'l passport now which differs from the one i applied for the Scholarship with. If eventually i get my Admission Letter and the J form, is it advisable to attach my old passport copy or, the new one or both with the documents for visa application at the embassy.

I am having sleepless night over this issue and non of the peeps i know in china have been able to give me a concrete approach to solve this.

Please any tip from you guys will help

if you win a Scholarship- univ should contact with you for the confirmation of your address. In this case you need to explain them your situation and with the help of Univ you will address your problem :)

I recommend to contact university as soon as possible, judging from previous years, they send application package right away and with the information you provided them when applying. You cannot apply with passport that has different number than the one stated at the visa application form university send you. It may take some time before they can issue new set of documents, obviously there is a new rule (at least in Guangdong province) that visa forms have to be validated by some governmental department before the school can dispatch it.
