High-Altitude Hygiene

I'm not actually in China at the moment, so Signese resources have been somewhat scarce on the ground lately. However, I've been shamed into action by the prolific postings by the folk at 中文挑战 - and one quick raid of the archives over at Signese.com, here we go:

1)This photo was taken outside a __________ on a _____________.

2) Operation of this facility requires __________ to be moved by ___________.

3) Said facility was funded by ________________.

4) Your ___________ and _____________ are hoped for. Although it is not made explicit, this probably means asking you to _________.

And a hint for anyone trying to figure out what 水所工运 means:

You're going in the wrong direction.

Extra credit for anyone who types up the sign so others can look up the words easier. I'll come back and check your answers later.

@jbradfor: I still don't quite understand it...

does it mean a single person funds the toilet and manual labor?

or several persons?

or is it asking people to donate?

@Gleaves

Yes, I'm pretty sure 免冲 means there's no flusher. Their toilets are essentially just holes to deposit $@!# into.

1)This photo was taken outside a restroom on a mountain.

2) Operation of this facility requires excrement to be moved by laborers.

3) Said facility was funded by individual investments.

4) Your understanding and cooperation are hoped for. Although it is not made explicit, this probably means asking you to donate some money.

Feihong above (among others) has the answers if anyone is looking for them. The only additions I would make are

3) 个人投资 is basically saying - we set this up ourselves. We aren't a big company or the government.

3) They are asking for money but not really donations. Out of frame there'll a sign saying what the toilet costs to use. I can't remember what it was, but it was pricier than you'd expect for a public toilet, and I'd guess they'd got some abuse for it, so put this up to explain.

The sign was actually at Badaling Great Wall, but it was taken in 2006, so it's quite possibly not there any more, should you be planning a pilgrimage.

免冲 I would normally expect to be a chemical-type toilet which doesn't need flushing. I'm not sure if that's what this is, or it's just a pit - which isn't so much 'doesn't need flushing' as 'doesn't flush'.
