billiardsmike Posted September 1, 2006 at 07:27 AM Report Share Posted September 1, 2006 at 07:27 AM All of the related threads are getting a little old and people might not be keeping up with them, hence the new announcement. All forum users (and non-users) are invited to a get-together Friday Sept. 8th at 7:00 pm at The International Beer Garden in Wudaokou. It's across from the train station, north of Chengfu Lu. Beer, food and non-alcoholic available in pleasant outdoor setting. Hope to see you there!
Hero Doug Posted September 1, 2006 at 08:10 AM Report Share Posted September 1, 2006 at 08:10 AM I assume this is for BeiJing residents?
sissi Posted September 1, 2006 at 09:29 AM Report Share Posted September 1, 2006 at 09:29 AM I think you can join it if you can come that day.

adrianlondon Posted September 1, 2006 at 02:42 PM Report Share Posted September 1, 2006 at 02:42 PM I assume this is for BeiJing residents? I guess everyone is invited, although it's a bit of a trek for a beer if you're not in Beijing ;) I will try and make it. I arrive on Wednesday and am studying at BNU. My first tasks, after registering and seeing if I can stand my flatmate, are to get a chinese SIM for my mobile and a bicycle. Once they're out of the way I'll be free to start socialising. billiardsmike Posted September 1, 2006 at 02:45 PM Author Report Share Posted September 1, 2006 at 02:45 PM It's open to anyone who feels a need to connect/socialize. Adrian, if you're running tight, there's a few phone places just across the street. Just come a little early.

aimei Posted September 2, 2006 at 01:24 PM Report Share Posted September 2, 2006 at 01:24 PM Lol, my bf and I just got back from Wudaoko a couple hours ago and I remember pointing out the international beer garden to him wondering if they have good beer. I think we will be there, don't think we have anything else planned. See you all there!
billiardsmike Posted September 3, 2006 at 05:48 AM Author Report Share Posted September 3, 2006 at 05:48 AM Just a thought. English reading materials can be a pain to get here. I'll bring 7-8 books I'm done with, for others to pick through at no charge. Bring yours if they're just taking up space.
PandaMelange Posted September 4, 2006 at 01:44 PM Report Share Posted September 4, 2006 at 01:44 PM Anyone interested in sharing a taxi from BNU? I know it's not far to Wudaukou, but I won't have a bike yet, nor do I expect to have had the time to test a bus route. Add a few drinks, and I shan't be wanting to chance it. Perhaps just on the way back...
roddy Posted September 4, 2006 at 01:50 PM Report Share Posted September 4, 2006 at 01:50 PM Bus routes are pretty simple - the 726 from the BNU East gate (cross pick-pocket bridge) will take you right along the BLCU - Wudaokou strip. Coming back the 331 is also an option and runs later, but I think on the way up there it takes a different route and doesn't get you right to where you want to be. Some 826's follow the 726 route, but not all.
billiardsmike Posted September 4, 2006 at 02:36 PM Author Report Share Posted September 4, 2006 at 02:36 PM You're close to a couple of train stations as well. I'd tell you which ones but the print on my map is small, it's late and I've had a couple of cocktails to induce sleep. The train stops across the street from the beer garden. Yellowfroggy Posted September 4, 2006 at 08:36 PM Report Share Posted September 4, 2006 at 08:36 PM Hi It's a good idea, but I am arriving in Beijing this same day, so it's gonna be very tight and difficult with the jetlag. Hope there will be another session I can join.
Madot Posted September 5, 2006 at 02:36 AM Report Share Posted September 5, 2006 at 02:36 AM Gettning close! Been in Sngapore for the past few days. Arriving in BJ tomorrow night. See you all on Friday at 7.00! Madp
adrianlondon Posted September 5, 2006 at 10:20 AM Report Share Posted September 5, 2006 at 10:20 AM Same here ;) In Singapore just for 7 hours. Enough time to meet a friend for dinner before getting my overnight flight to Beijing. God I'm going to be sleepy when I arrive and, from all accounts, all I have to look forward to is a few hours of queueing at BNU, registering for stuff. Hey ho. billiardsmike Posted September 5, 2006 at 10:50 AM Author Report Share Posted September 5, 2006 at 10:50 AM I hope a couple of experienced hands are going to show up! I've only been here 5 weeks and if I'm the most knowledgable there, I'm screwed. I only speak taxi driver directions!
KingKitega Posted September 6, 2006 at 01:26 AM Report Share Posted September 6, 2006 at 01:26 AM Count us in. Me and my wife will make it 4 from BNU! Panda - you still getting taxi there? We have bikes (plus a spare one!) so maybe riding there is ok. But not sure about riding back though...
Hero Doug Posted September 6, 2006 at 09:32 AM Report Share Posted September 6, 2006 at 09:32 AM Yeah, going to BeiJing is a bit out of the way for me. Sound's good though.
stratman Posted September 7, 2006 at 03:30 AM Report Share Posted September 7, 2006 at 03:30 AM I think I'm in, making it 5 from BNU. Where should we meet up beforehand?
