Popup Chinese Translator for Firefox!!

I tried out Popup Chinese. It's pretty fast and I guess it does what it should. It has a rather small vocabulary though.

I like Pera-kun most of all popup plugins, although Pera-kun has its own problems, such as a crappy version of CEDICT.

I haven't tried it as I haven't seen an answer to my security question.

I think we've established that Perakun gets an automated ADSO update. Possibly the conversion / import process from adso is defective?

In the meantime, I've gone back to using the 0.2.2 version, as it provides better definitions, and it highlights all the characters it's defining, which the new version doesn't do.

Perakun should be fine if it used the current version of CEDICT (released 2008-10-12 with 78,413 entries). Even better if it allowed users to import their own file.

I'm getting tempted to try ABCinChina's CEDICT formatted for Kingsoft Powerword 2007.

I just came across ChinesePera-Kun last week. It may not be perfect, but it's definitely useful. I'm enjoying using it. I just installed version 1.05 from http://perapera.wordpress.com. Just one suggestion: Would it be possible to hide the mouse pointer when the definition appears? It gets in the way of the character I'm trying to read. Good luck--looking forward to the next version.

Will there be a version that works with Firefox 3.53?

You can download a version that works with Firefox 3.5 at http://perapera.wordpress.com. Download that and open the file with Firefox, and you can install it.

Firefox add-ons are required to have a version control number, and every time Firefox's version number goes up, the version number in the add-on has to be updated as well, even though there is no change in the software code. It just requires changing the version in the setup file. It's kind of annoying.

Are there any popup translators out there that use the latest CEDICT version (or allow you to update?)? I am constantly frustrated to find things are in CEDICT but aren't in Perakun. CEDICT has nearly 110k dictionary entries nowadays...

I've installed firefox 3.6.4 and perapera-kun 2.1 and for some reason it doesn't work for me. It has a lookup bar and options click box at the bottom left but the 'select a language' area is all grey. I have no other language tools installed on my browser. Any ideas?

The dictionary is grayed out because the default install does not include a dictionary file. You have to go to the perapera.wordpress.com site listed above to download a dictionary file.
