"Making Connections" Listening Comprehension

I'm not sure if this will be helpful in any way, but a friend of mine bought me a listening comprehension course type thing called "Listening to Mandarin: Themes" by Philip Yungkin Lee. It comes with 4 CDs and a workbook and transcript book. The dialogues are read at native speed (or near-native) and the vocab seems quite up to date as well. Anyone else used this?

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread. Like many of you, I too am a self learned studier of Mandarin, and after nine months of consistent (more or less) work, I am ready to improve my listening comprehension at the beginners level. Xie xie.
