wushijiao Posted March 18, 2004 at 05:49 AM Report Share Posted March 18, 2004 at 05:49 AM Hey! Can anybody give me some names of some good Korean movies that are fairly common in the DVD stores in China? I've been reading a lot about how Korea's film industry has become fairly good. skylee Posted March 18, 2004 at 06:51 AM Report Share Posted March 18, 2004 at 06:51 AM I forgot to mention these - Wanee & Junah (戀愛素描) Bad Guy (爛泥情人) (the movie is great but the story is very politically incorrect and upsetting)
Ian_Lee Posted March 18, 2004 at 07:20 PM Report Share Posted March 18, 2004 at 07:20 PM Have you watched "Shuri" which was produced 4 or 5 years ago? It was good but since it is very political, I wonder if it is available in China.

skylee Posted April 18, 2004 at 03:28 PM Report Share Posted April 18, 2004 at 03:28 PM I have just seen these two movies, which are both directed by Kim Ki-duk, and am very impressed (in fact I think they are among the best of the festival's films) - Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter ... and Spring (春、夏、秋、冬) Samaritan Girl (肉海慈航)
sunyata Posted April 19, 2004 at 03:07 AM Report Share Posted April 19, 2004 at 03:07 AM I recommend: Oasis and Plastic Tree I like these, because they are not just CGI-filled nationalistic flicks or cheesy comedies, but fairly serious critiques of Korean culture. skylee Posted July 26, 2004 at 02:48 PM Report Share Posted July 26, 2004 at 02:48 PM Taegukgi 太極旗飄揚:生死有情 This is a good film, though I don't particularly like it for its genre. Some of the scenes are quite haunting ...

skylee Posted July 26, 2004 at 11:11 PM Report Share Posted July 26, 2004 at 11:11 PM Cecilia Cheung in 白蘭 is good. But the movie is sad, old-fashioned and boring IMHO.

bhchao Posted July 27, 2004 at 11:57 PM Report Share Posted July 27, 2004 at 11:57 PM What about Winter Sonata (冬季戀歌, 겨울연가)? I heard this TV series has been real popular in Japan.
skylee Posted July 28, 2004 at 01:59 AM Report Share Posted July 28, 2004 at 01:59 AM Winter Sonata (冬季戀歌) is GREAT (but it is a TV series not a movie). I have the DVD set, and would recommend it to anyone who likes such kind of melodrama, pretty faces, beautiful scenes, and nice songs/music. But when you watch it you must only enjoy what you see and what you hear and never question whether the story is reasonable. (i.e. 聽故(事)唔好駁故...) During my trips to China last year, it occurred to me whenever I saw a TV (no matter if it was in Dali old town, Lijiang old town, etc), this drama (dubbed in Mandarin) was being played. (Or maybe it was that people turned on the TV to watch it whenever it was broadcast, and that was all the time!!) And I saw it on TV in Japan this year. Bae Yong-jun (裴勇俊) is hot.
