I was wondering what the use and meaning was of the "的话" in the following sentences:

我没猜错的话，你现在忙着给你的新女朋友打电话。

如果我能的话，我一定会帮忙的。

roughly, "in that case" or "if." So

我没猜错的话, ....

“的话”help “如果” express the meaning of " if" "in the case"...

"的话" have not real meaning of themselves.

Besides, '的话' is used with conjunctions, such as '假如' and '要是' to express 'if' or 'in the case'. Of course, it can be used singly at the end of a sentence expressing a supposal.

e.g.

（假如）你明天很忙的话，就不用过来了。

（要是）你认为有必要的话，你就来吧。

可以的话，让我再试一试。

And '的话' with conjunctions such as '否则', '不然', '要不然' or '要不' can express the meaning of 'otherwise' or 'or'.

e.g.

你最好过来，否则的话，你会有麻烦。

我必须走了，（要）不然的话，我会迟到的。

你可以坐地铁回去，要不的话，坐公共汽车也行。
