Tei Posted April 17, 2004 at 04:22 PM Report Share Posted April 17, 2004 at 04:22 PM Is this still being used in the Mainland? How do Mainland input Characters? Pinyin, Zhuyin, or another way? I'm trying to understand why zhuyin fuhao is not that popular any more. Or perhaps I'm mistaken.

wix Posted April 18, 2004 at 10:36 AM Report Share Posted April 18, 2004 at 10:36 AM Zhuyin fuhao is still used in the education system in Taiwan. i.e. all Taiwanese children learn it at primary school. In fact it is the only phonetic system they learn. I think China adopted Hanyu Pinyin in the 1950s. After that Wade-Giles and Zhuyin disappeared by the wayside. I like zhuyin fuhao, but Hanyu pinyin is likely to remain the dominant system. In this age of computers a romanised system is probably best as it can be entered on any computer keyboard. sophielee Posted April 21, 2004 at 07:48 PM Report Share Posted April 21, 2004 at 07:48 PM What's the origin of zhuyinfuhao? And is it preferable or just a question of learning/adjusting to either phonetic alphabets?
