Rincewind Posted March 22, 2008 at 03:20 PM Author Report Share Posted March 22, 2008 at 03:20 PM Oh that's a classic. I love the two Ronnies. Embarrassingly, I remember when they were new. Still get blocked on some videos. I can see many videos concerning last weeks news but just occasionally something trips a keyword block. Of course there's nothing unusual in that. self-taught-mba Posted March 22, 2008 at 05:54 PM Report Share Posted March 22, 2008 at 05:54 PM Wow, I've never seen a news report score so high in terms of hits (Chinese). It seems as though some Chinese news footage from the government was uploaded and a lot of people suddenly looked at it thereby bumping that position into the most views list. In fact it's very rare for something in Chinese to get that high on the list. Interesting.
liuzhou Posted March 4, 2009 at 11:23 AM Report Share Posted March 4, 2009 at 11:23 AM (edited) Anyone else having problems this evening? I watched one video around 6 pm then tried to access another at 6:12 and failed. I now can't get into it at all without using proxy. roddy Posted March 4, 2009 at 11:29 AM Report Share Posted March 4, 2009 at 11:29 AM without, rather than with, I think. Just checked - errors with no proxy, works fine with a proxy.
imron Posted March 4, 2009 at 11:33 AM Report Share Posted March 4, 2009 at 11:33 AM I have no problems here in Beijing, with China Netcom.
liuzhou Posted March 4, 2009 at 11:40 AM Report Share Posted March 4, 2009 at 11:40 AM Yes "without". Now edited. Must be local problem. Thanks guys.
roddy Posted March 4, 2009 at 11:47 AM Report Share Posted March 4, 2009 at 11:47 AM I'm also with Beijing Netcom, and I can't get it. Why can Imron? Not fair.
gougou Posted March 4, 2009 at 11:58 AM Report Share Posted March 4, 2009 at 11:58 AM Can't open it here either.
peekay Posted March 4, 2009 at 12:01 PM Report Share Posted March 4, 2009 at 12:01 PM Ditto, CNC/BT Beijing. Without proxy, intermittently getting blocked, then unblocked, then blocked again... literally changing minute-by-minute. Edit: and ironically the reason I went to YouTube earlier today was to watch linked videos from an analysis piece I was sure was going to be blocked by the GFW. Those YouTube videos are now no longer available to visitors from Chinese IP addresses (when one can get through at all), but YouTube is still serving them to non-Chinese addresses. liuzhou Posted March 4, 2009 at 01:55 PM Report Share Posted March 4, 2009 at 01:55 PM I've checked with friends around Guangxi. No one can get it. Nanning, Guilin, Hechi, etc.

roddy Posted March 25, 2009 at 10:27 AM Report Share Posted March 25, 2009 at 10:27 AM Gone again, or maybe it was gone all the time, I don't know. It's all a bit silly really. As the facts and history show, Youtube is an indivisible part of the Internet. This splittist behaviour impresses nobody.
liuzhou Posted March 25, 2009 at 05:03 PM Report Share Posted March 25, 2009 at 05:03 PM (edited) What amuses me is that people keep telling me that China's censors are getting more sophisticated. So, they block a site containing millions of innocuous videos because one video offends their drunken sensibilities. More people in China have probably seen the video because it was blocked than would have bothered to look otherwise. Sophisticated? Donkeys! roddy Posted March 27, 2009 at 09:40 AM Report Share Posted March 27, 2009 at 09:40 AM Strange, I loaded it up, searched 'tibet' and clicked on some videos and it didn't seem to be working.
JenniferW Posted March 27, 2009 at 11:34 AM Report Share Posted March 27, 2009 at 11:34 AM I'm in the UK and the current blocking of YouTube was a main feature in news items here a couple of days ago: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/mar/25/china-blocks-youtube
roddy Posted March 27, 2009 at 01:13 PM Report Share Posted March 27, 2009 at 01:13 PM It was a main feature four or five posts up the page too
Guili Posted March 28, 2009 at 11:13 AM Report Share Posted March 28, 2009 at 11:13 AM It is working now,I have heard that it happens sometimes in China ,they block it for political reasons, then after few days unblock again,so don't get frustrated if it will be blocked next time
