skylee Posted November 5, 2007 at 01:13 PM Report Share Posted November 5, 2007 at 01:13 PM Historical fiction that is easy to read is quite hard to find imho. Perhaps you could try 誘僧 (Temptation of a Monk). The background of the story is 玄武門之變 of Tang Dynasty. http://www.readnovel.com/novel/1230.html

文言訓開班 Posted November 6, 2007 at 06:19 PM Report Share Posted November 6, 2007 at 06:19 PM Oops, sorry. I wasn't exactly sure what wuxia was. I thought it might be 武-something but wasn't sure, so I thought I'd just give the information I knew.

Philee Posted October 9, 2008 at 02:42 AM Report Share Posted October 9, 2008 at 02:42 AM Historical books are even more difficult to read as it often employs some 文言 writing style. I think you can start with some ancient poems that will surly help you understand Chinese culture as well as the language. And then turn back to modern novels 'cause as you can see in 金庸的武侠 novel, you can always come across some 文言 writing style. But to tell you the truth 金庸's novels are almost the easiest novels with natural Chinese. But if you still stick to novels, I shall recommend 赵树理's novel. They were written purely in 白话 but the topic was concentrated on rustic life. Because he mainly wrote for the rustic people who were not well educated. 赵树理 is called 汉语大师 'cause of all famous novelists, 赵树理 use the least mount of characters. Here are two of his most famous novels: 《小二黑结婚》 《李有才板话》
Christina99 Posted October 18, 2008 at 12:36 AM Report Share Posted October 18, 2008 at 12:36 AM 《无间道》maybe, you probably saw the movie, but the book is also good. 《骆驼祥子》a little old, but very impressive, contains history and no big words. qq51186988 Posted October 22, 2008 at 03:17 PM Report Share Posted October 22, 2008 at 03:17 PM I think 文化苦旅 is hard to read. I recommend xun2 qin2 ji4 寻秦记. Do you think it's wu xia ? I like it very much!
