Dear x, I speak Chinese but am not good at explaining it.

得 = used after a verb or an adjective to indicate the degree of the verb/adj. e.g. 寫得很好, 冷得很, 吃得飽, 穿得暖, 我比你高得多

才 = then, and only then? (right, in this context. It indicates dependence. You must do something before you can do another thing -> drive far before you could pick him up.)

接 = pick up someone - I go to the airport to pick him up (我到機場去接他)

便 = not sure how to explain this, help.

点了菜 = "We ordered." I think it is a logical step after you got the menu.

de and le (at the end) can be omitted.

Wo nian le chabuduo yinian zhongwen.

Wo chabuduo nian le yinian zhongwen.

Quest, I think some of your examples are wrong indeed.

"Chabuduo you yinian le ba, wo nian zhongwen yijing. " is wrong.

still continuing = verb le.....................le

did but done = verb le............

This is an overemphasize of the Chinese tenses, I think the textbook said so because they were written for English speakers, but Chinese don't think so, so the distinction is wrong.

Just say "xue le yinian", it's exactly the same as "xue le yinian le".

it is spoken language, not wrong. I admit I tried to push the envelope a bit too far
