how to write components?

Recommended Posts

Qiuyue

I am about to write an essay on chinese language which will be rather analytical and contain longer sections on radicals and other components of characters.

It´s just that I don´t know how to write those components with my Microsoft windows software. Do I need another program?

How do other people do this?

Type the pinyin of the first character of its name, eg. san for 氵, jin for 钅.

Ah, clever! I'd noticed them popping up now and then but it hadn't registered that it was because I'd just typed the first bit of the name . . .

艹灬扌。。。

Of course, if you used Wubi, this wouldn't have ever been a problem and you could have just been typing them all along 氵钅忄:wink:
How to write the lower part of 桥 ??
I don't think it works for components that aren't radicals, so if you wanted to type just the 丿丨 as one single component then you'd probably be out of luck.

As mentioned above, Wenlin will break any character into components.

So for 桥 qiao it offers

components: 木乔夭枖

If you want further detail, you can then look up these characters in Wenlin; looking up 乔, for example, tells you that the bottom component is 八 ba.
