I think the poem captures the considerable respect that men during Song times expressed toward their wives and daughters. 文天祥 wrote a poem expressing his affection for his two daughters during his incarceration. Mother of the poet forced him to divorce his wife (his cousin), whom he loved. He obeyed. And ten years later they met again, each having a new family.
