There's a lot of poetry in the Lord of the Rings and some of it is very good. I particularly remember the line "And still there are so many things that I have never seen. In every wood, in every spring, there is a different green.". Also a very funny longer poem about an argument between Tom (with his big boots on) and a troll about whether it is inappropriate for the troll to be gnawing on the shinbone of Tom's long dead Uncle Tim. A sample view from each:

"My lad", said Troll, "this bone I stole.

But what be bones that lie in a hole?

Thine uncle was as dead as a lump of lead

Before I found his shinbone.

He can spare a share for a poor old troll.

For he don't need his shinbone."

Said Tom: "I don't see why the likes of thee,

without asking leave should go making free,

with the shank or the shin of my father's kin,

so hand the old bone over!

Though dead he be, it belongs to he.

So hand the old bone over!"

Definitely worth a read, studentyoung!

Although it is just the interlude of the film “The Graduate”, but I think the lyrics are quite poetic.

The Sound of Silence

(translated by studentyoung)

Hello darkness, my old friend

I've come to talk with you again

Because a vision softly creeping

Left its seeds while I was sleeping

And the vision that was planted in my brain still remains

Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone

Narrow streets of cobblestone

Neath the halo of a street lamp

I turned my collar to the cold and damp

When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light

That split the night

And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw

Ten thousand people, maybe more

People talking without speaking

People hearing without listening

People writing songs that voices never share

And no one dare disturb the sound of silence

"Fools" said I, "You do not know

Silence like a cancer grows”

Hear my words that I might teach you

Take my arms that I might reach to you

But my words like silent as raindrops fell

And echoed in the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed to the neon god they made

And the sign flashed out its warning

And the words that it was forming

And the sign said:

灵兆如所示

"The words of the prophets are written

on the subway walls and tenement halls

And whispered in the sound of silence."

Although it is just the interlude of the film “The Graduate”

It is more than that. According to Wikipedia

The Sounds of Silence" is the song that propelled the 1960s folk music duo Simon and Garfunkel to popularity [they became very very famous]. It was written in February 1964 by Paul Simon in the aftermath of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. Simon conceived of the song as a way of capturing the emotional trauma felt by many Americans.

The Graduate was only made a few years later.
