就行了

Hi friends,

I often see some Chinese sentences ending with 就行了, like in the following example:

我等他就行了

I don't understand what does 就行了 really means or what's the point of putting it here. Can't we simply say 我等他, what's the difference between the two?

I am just a beginner, but I believe it means something like: "... then it will be alright/then it will work out!" So in your example sentence it could mean: "(If) I wait for him, then it will turn out ok."

Here it implies that it's not necessary to angthing else.

Take your sentence for example, "我等他就行了“ implies that I will wait for him , you don't need to. It shows that I can handle this.

Also note that 就可以了 is the same meaning/construction

就行了 generally, it is used as complement, means “it is ok”or“it is enough” “就行了”是补语，表示“可以”了，“够”了。

For example:

我等他/我等他就行了

I wait him/ I will wait him here, it is ok.

They all express I wait him, yet have some difference in mood.

我等他就行了In this sentence, include 2 meaning.

1.只“我”等他就行了，“你”或“其他人”都可以不用管了；One is emphasizing “I”will wait him, others can leave here, it is ok, enough.

我等他 we don’t know whether others need wait him or not.

2.我只“等”他就行了，不用采取其他的措施（打电话、发寻人启事、四处去找等等）。

Two is I only wait him is ok, no need to take other ways to contact him. ( to call, to find)

Here, “就行了”use in coming tense, expressing the judgement of conditions, the speaker think it doesn’t matter. If we delete the 就行了，the meaning is right, but missing some positive tone. 表示说话人对形势的判断，认为事态并不严重。如果没有“就行了”，意思也具备了，但是不如有来得明确、肯定、坚决。

B : 三块钱就行了.

(2)　A: How much do you need?

B: 半磅就行了.

(3)　Ａ： Should we all go to the airport to pick him up?

B: 不用, 我一个人去就行了.

(4)　Hanyu'sWay: Do you understand now? Do need you more examples?

Anna Liu, I think it expresses the second meaning, because I read this sentence in the Chinese subtitle of a Hong Kong movie titled 放逐 (or 'Exiled'). A man comes to a house to look for a man named 阿和, his wife opens up the door and answers that a man by this name doesn't live here. The man looking for 阿和 doesn't beleive her and responds by saying, 我等他就行了.
