Garbage words in mandarin

Hi All!

I suppose there are lots of different "garbage words" used in different areas of china...

When one talk to native speaker, later uses them in speech and sometimes it can be difficult to understand until marking them out in order not to translate it directly each time.

Can you advise - which words/phrases are more often spoken automatically, through habit and dont carry any meaning.

A friend of mine puts 'ya' and 'la' at the end of most of her sentences. I've been told it's a girl thing and not to do it.

You are right. I would suggest you check with your friend whenever you are suspecting some usage is girlish. The reason is that, unfortunately, there is a huge amount of girlish guys in Asia, from whom you cannot tell what is girlish and what is not. I, myself, am quite often stunned by how some guys speak Mandarin.
