I'd rather watch the Chinese stars of "Modern English" Mister Muscle cracks me up, and the Beijing girls who seem to have tofu for brains are always amusing. If you really want to improve your Chinese proficiency by watching tv then you must tune into Phoenix TV News Network evening news broadcasts as well as analysis by Ruan Ci Shan. Aside from hearing perfect Mandarin pronunciation, you will also gain insight into Chinese domestic affairs and China's dealings on the international stage. I find the show is great for someone at low intermediate level. Watching news broadcasts is really only good for upper intermeidate - advanced students.
