Has anyone ever heard of HANDBOOK FOR ANALYZING CHINESE CHARACTERS?

Chinese is: 汉字分析手册任知方编著

the guy who wrote it is Ren Zhifang 任知方

It's a massive book. But I think he separates the words into 5 catergories... most useful all the way to least useful. According to the forward... the author said it took him 10 years to put together. Amazing.

The examples are all Chinese characters, pinyin and then English.

Since I was in need of a dictionary... and this one was at a massive discount...I went for it. Just wondering if others have heard of it?!?!

List price of USD250, no wonder it was at a massive discount. It's on Amazon if anyone wants to take a look.

Heard of it, but I thought, from reading the description, that 說文解字 was better, and free.

Perhaps a positive review may convince me otherwise.

$250 is a little steep, plus that is pretty hefty to carry around.

About 說文解字, can I download that? It seems like there are a bunch of different versions of it? What is the recommended place to get it from? Thanks !

I don't know anywhere you can download it, but there are online editions. I like this one.
