Gaogao Posted April 14, 2009 at 10:02 AM Report Share Posted April 14, 2009 at 10:02 AM (edited) Hi everybody! I´m planning to study at BNU for 4 weeks in July this year. I´ve heard a lot about BLCU´s short-term programs, but there doesn´t seem to be much on BNU, so if anybody has some experience with BNU´s summer classes, I would be really delighted to have your feedback! Thank you! Edited April 16, 2009 at 10:13 AM by Gaogao
momolito Posted April 22, 2009 at 05:05 AM Report Share Posted April 22, 2009 at 05:05 AM I am also thinking of attending BNU this summer and would appreciate feedback on their Chinese classes. I have studied many years of Chinese and would most likely be an advanced student. Does anyone know what books they use, something about the teaching quality, class size etc. Thank you! adrianlondon Posted April 22, 2009 at 01:21 PM Report Share Posted April 22, 2009 at 01:21 PM I thought the summer courses were just for complete beginners? It would be worth getting in touch with BNU (or waiting for some else to reply here!) before making any plans. Small amount of info here. Gaogao Posted April 22, 2009 at 01:43 PM Author Report Share Posted April 22, 2009 at 01:43 PM Hi! I´ve already checked out BNU´s site about a thousand times. So, this is why it would be nice to hear the experience of somebody who has been there. BTW, there is written "Placement Test" in the timetable, so I don´t really think that it would be only for beginners. Especially if you can go there with a HSK scholarship- I suppose then you should know some Chinese....
momolito Posted April 22, 2009 at 04:01 PM Report Share Posted April 22, 2009 at 04:01 PM I called the schools BNU and also CNU (From U.S.) last night and spoke with someone there (in Chinese) who knew the programs. The person at CNU (Which is Capital Normal University and had been recommended to me) said that my Chinese woudl probably be too advanced for their summer program and suggested BLCU. The person at BNU said pretty much the same thing -he said that they usually only have one or two advanced students for the summer program and therefore they can not make a special class for them and that the general level for their summer students would be intermediate and below. I think both CNU and BNU have advanced classes in the Fall and Spring but summer is different. So now I am back to thinking about BLCU becuase they have more students and the chances of getting a more advanced class seem greater. Any comments would be appreciated. Gaogao Posted April 22, 2009 at 06:47 PM Author Report Share Posted April 22, 2009 at 06:47 PM (edited) Momolito: Thanks for the info. I think (and hope) with my HSK 3 and approx. lower-intermediate level will have enough to study at BNU.
