mister tom Posted May 13, 2009 at 01:43 PM Report Share Posted May 13, 2009 at 01:43 PM hi i'm thinking of teaching english in china in september and had a provisional offer from an agency called teic http://www.teic.co.uk/howtoapply.php they were to put me in a top school in guangzhong the school has not got back to them so he they think there may be a problem there - in the light of this they are looking for other placements for me, particularly a remote town further north, name i forget i noticed that the first school are still advrtising so i could apply outside the agency, i would lose the benefit of an extra layer of security but it would sav me 175 gbp any advice would be welcome, this is my first time going to asia so i am a bit nervous many thanks tom
whereishunter Posted May 13, 2009 at 02:24 PM Report Share Posted May 13, 2009 at 02:24 PM Agency's are fine to use, but use ones that are free for you. It should not cost you anything for them to find you a job. They will make there money from the school. http://www.tefljobs.cn/ http://www.mykindachina.com/ http://www.chinateachonline.com/en/index.htm Here are a couple of websites that you will have no problems finding jobs for free. There are many more websites around. Your biggest problem will be choosing which city to live in.
roddy Posted May 13, 2009 at 02:40 PM Report Share Posted May 13, 2009 at 02:40 PM I don't know, having had a quick look TEIC do seem to be placing people exclusively in government schools, which *on average* are perhaps better experiences; and their Chinese partner does appear to be halfway government-affiliated in some way. That GBP175 is likely to cover the costs and cut of the professor guy handling the applications. You could perhaps remove the middleman. But by all means apply to the original school, and any others you see and like the look of. No harm in gathering a number of options and doing plenty of research before you make your decision.
