However I was thinking if a girl said this to me, any amorous feelings would be painlessly and instantly dispelled, thereby leaving only the option of a platonic relationship. amperel Posted July 28, 2004 at 04:14 PM Report Share Posted July 28, 2004 at 04:14 PM some suggestions: please get lost ~ 請滾開 (qing2 gun3 kai1) only friends ~ 普通朋友 (pu3 tong1 peng2 you3) [普通 means common as supposed to "special" like a couple] there are some terms that i don't think have an equivalence in chinese (someone may correct me) like "chill out" and some sayings in english can sound forced and unnatural in chinese. 14. chill out!!! 一边儿凉快去吧！ Yi4bian1er liang2kuai4 qu4 ba1! 哪儿凉快哪儿呆着去吧！ Na3 er liang2kuai4 na3 er dai1zhe1 qu4 ba1! 醒醒吧你！ xing3xing3 ba1 ni3! it means more like "calm down", "relax", "go slow/easy". but for sassy's situation, i think she means to ask her "friend" to not make any more moves on "pursuing" her, to back off, to go "sit in a corner and not do anything rash"... so maybe something like "別再騷擾我了!" (bie2 zai4 sao1 rao2 wo3 le) [= don't disturb/harass me, notes 性騷擾 = sexual harassment]. or maybe someone else can come up with something as compact and impactful as "chill out" in chinese - anyone? i notice a lot of rhetorical statements. some i don't think work as well in chinese like "Can you take a hint?!" (你能不能领会一下暗示？) and "How am I supposed to put up with your foolishness?!" (我怎么可能去成就你的愚蠢呢？) i'd just say "我警告你" (wo2 jing3 gao4 ni3 = I warn you), "我不能忍受你!" (wo3 bu4 neng2 ren3 shou4 ni3 = i can't stand you), etc. If you don't try anything!!! (im not sure what this sentence means, pls correct me if the Chinese translation is wrong) i don't understand either - do u mean "if you try anything foolish i'd ____"?
