Studying in Guangzhou University

I'm trying to get to Guangzhou university as a exchange student next spring. If you have studied there can you please tell me something about the university? At Finland I study history and have been studying mandarin chinese for one year now. In Guangzhou I would like to study history, chinese language and chinese culture.

Do you know how much they have courses in English?

How is it like to live in the campus area?

In Guangzhou they speak Cantonese, will I survive with Mandarin?

I have never been to China before and I'm really excited even I don't yet know if I get accepted to the exchange program.

Thank you!

Take it easy.

You should ask related teachers in your school for details about this exchange program.

How is it like to live in the campus area?

The university has an old campus and a new one. I don’t know which one you will go to.

In Guangzhou they speak Cantonese, will I survive with Mandarin?

Don't worry. In Guangzhou, local people do speak Cantonese, but college students can speak mandarin.

The websites below might be useful.

I went to my university to ask few thing about student exchange and Guangzhou university. The one dealing with Guangzhou university was on vacation and every one else didn't know anything about it.

The English website of Guangzhou university is awful. It has almost nothing useful information. And my Chinese skills are so poor that it its very difficult to read their Chinese pages.

Could someone of you help me please?

Can you tell me where I could find the information about how many courses they have in English. I am going to study Chinese culture, language and history there. (I am a history student.)

I have these addresses:

The official page: http://gzhu.edu.cn/

This page is maybe for exchange students: http://ie.gzhu.edu.cn/ (It has a button to English site, but the link is missing!)

I know this is a lot to ask but I have no one to ask for.

So a huge thank you in advance if someone has the time and kindness to help me.

I would be surprised if they taught you any courses using English as the medium of instruction.

I am going to study Chinese culture, language and history there.

...can often mean the class: "Look at characters! Write Sentences!" from what I hear.

Oh, and I can't imagine you will ever interact with anyone during your entire stay here in GZ that can't speak Mandarin, unless you are trying to strike up a conversation with migrant hobos on the street whom never went to school.
