kappe Posted December 29, 2009 at 12:25 AM Report Share Posted December 29, 2009 at 12:25 AM Hi there, In Denmark where I live, is a Chinese restaurant that serve a delicious dish I LOVE. But unfortunately I do not know the name of the dish. I have of course tried to ask for the name, but the waiter did not know the Chinese name only the Danish name which when translated is; 'Beef and vegetables in hot chilli sauce'. Some of the ingredients I do know is: Chilli Beef Carrots Baby corn Bell pepper Onions Bamboo But what the sauce is made of is the big question... Here is a picture I took and this time the dish is served with fried noodles. http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/1406/img0439z.jpg Sometimes the dish is also served with rise, noodles and Curry fried Potatoes. I really hope someone can help me. I need the name of the dish and if you could supply the recipe I would be more than grateful. Thank you in advance. gerri Posted December 29, 2009 at 04:30 AM Report Share Posted December 29, 2009 at 04:30 AM Looks rather so-called Chinese, but not really Chinese, to me...

in_lab Posted December 29, 2009 at 06:01 AM Report Share Posted December 29, 2009 at 06:01 AM This isn't an official name, but it seems reasonable to call it 辣味牛肉蔬菜燴麵.
Kenny同志 Posted December 29, 2009 at 06:16 AM Report Share Posted December 29, 2009 at 06:16 AM Not totally Chinese.
xiaotao Posted December 29, 2009 at 10:48 AM Report Share Posted December 29, 2009 at 10:48 AM Experiment with the ready made sauces in the Asian store.
kappe Posted December 29, 2009 at 10:57 PM Author Report Share Posted December 29, 2009 at 10:57 PM Hi again, Thank you all for your answers, and please forgive my ignorance. I was sure that it was a Chinese dish, since it was served at a Chinese restaurant. But I will follow Xiaotao's advice and try to see if I can find the sauce a our local Asian store. Again, I thank you all for your answers
imron Posted December 30, 2009 at 01:10 AM Report Share Posted December 30, 2009 at 01:10 AM I've no doubt the above posters understood that it was served in a Chinese restaurant, but what happens in many Chinese restaurants outside of China is that you find a lot of quasi-Chinese food designed to cater more to the taste of local customers rather than being authentic Chinese food. The comments above reflect this and are merely saying that this looks like the kind of 'Chinese' food you only really find in Chinese restaurants outside of China. BrandeX Posted December 30, 2009 at 04:12 AM Report Share Posted December 30, 2009 at 04:12 AM I concur, I have eaten stuff resembling that in the states, but haven't ever had anything too similar here in China.
nitnoy Posted December 30, 2009 at 07:56 AM Report Share Posted December 30, 2009 at 07:56 AM kappe i am sure like you are that this is a Chinese dish, but it's of very low standard, maybe just tell them you want stir fried beef with mixed veg, this simple dish can be found all over the world, the basic ingredients would be similar, the differences will be the different sauce added when stir frying like oyster sauce, chillied broad bean paste, XO sauce etc from your picture, it seems like the sauce is made of chillied broad bean paste note: the beef can be replaced with, seafoods, pork, venison or any meat you can think of
Arvin Posted December 30, 2009 at 08:59 AM Report Share Posted December 30, 2009 at 08:59 AM Perhaps this dish is called Sliced Beef and Ox Tongue in Chilli Sauce(chinese name 夫妻肺片). Sliced Beef and Ox Tongue in Chilli Sauce is a delicous dish in China, but the ingredients in the dish may be different in different places. adrianlondon Posted December 30, 2009 at 11:07 AM Report Share Posted December 30, 2009 at 11:07 AM Yeah, looks like a simple European "Chinese style stir-fry" to me, too ;) Easy to get in the UK. Doesn't mean it's not tasty but I can see why the staff at your restaurant didn't have a Chinese name to give you.
BrandeX Posted January 4, 2010 at 07:50 AM Report Share Posted January 4, 2010 at 07:50 AM I was sure that it was a Chinese dish, since it was served at a Chinese restaurant. If they served Chinese food at Chinese restaurants around the world, no one would eat it and they would go out of business. This is not untrue of nearly any other cuisine which is also localized for international markets. I am not certain about other countries, but if anyone called the Pizza Hut I worked at as a student year ago and asked for corn as one of their toppings, I would have thought they were dumb (no corn in our pizza's in my region anyway), as well as disgusting. liuzhou Posted January 6, 2010 at 12:58 PM Report Share Posted January 6, 2010 at 12:58 PM If they served Chinese food at Chinese restaurants around the world, no one would eat it and they would go out of business. I'm not sure that that is true. There is a growing interest in authentic regional Chinese cooking in England for example.
