Claw Posted August 19, 2004 at 07:21 AM Report Share Posted August 19, 2004 at 07:21 AM Yes, the underlines are called 專名號. It's not always used though, and I believe it's used more often in Taiwan than it is on the Mainland. I'm not completely sure since I haven't read many novels. pazu Posted August 19, 2004 at 02:13 PM Report Share Posted August 19, 2004 at 02:13 PM I'm quite sure all new novels just ignore using 專名號, probably because it's quite a trouble to underline the proper names all the time, if you underline the name of a person, you're going to have to underline all other NAMES, including country names, company names, just to make the punctuation mark more "consistent", you know what I mean,,, it's a time-consuming task, most publishers nowadays ignored it.
