choffs32 Posted January 12, 2010 at 05:55 PM Report Share Posted January 12, 2010 at 05:55 PM am in high school and this is my first year studying Chinese and I love it! I have been looking into summer study programs in China and have found many that are for high school graduates but not high school students. There are some that have summer camps and that would be fun but I feel that it would not be as great of a learning experience because it is a "summer camp". The plus side is I would learn more about culture in the extra activities. I would only have a month to do a program so I want it to be fun but also serious.I would like to learn as much as I possibly can. (I know a month is not much but I will take what I can get) I know that most users are not high school students but I know that many of you have studied or lived in China for periods of time. If anyone knows any program or anything that could help me please let me know! Thanks!
周易Joey Posted January 13, 2010 at 01:56 PM Report Share Posted January 13, 2010 at 01:56 PM I think that many of the university's in China require you to be a high school graduate, but I'm sure many of the private schools in China will take anyone. If you've never been to China maybe you'd enjoy just touring around and practicing what you know of the language Good Luck.
chrix Posted January 13, 2010 at 04:23 PM Report Share Posted January 13, 2010 at 04:23 PM I know someone from Germany who took part in a year-long programme in Beijing specifically designed for high school students, so it's definitely possible and popular as well, as the school in question had students from all over. Brian US Posted January 16, 2010 at 05:32 AM Report Share Posted January 16, 2010 at 05:32 AM I know a Canadian student studying at BLCU that in high school did a one year study in Taiwan with a host family. Maybe that is your best bet with private classes on the side. Yet, host families and private schools require a lot of research as many a horror story have been told. Sorry I don't know any programs, but maybe the idea will be better than a summer camp. While skyping with my dad today he also brought up that a business partner's son is also looking for the same study experience (middle/high school). I look forward to other suggestions and could you possibly provide info on the summer camps?
daofeishi Posted January 16, 2010 at 05:49 AM Report Share Posted January 16, 2010 at 05:49 AM If you are adventurous, you should consider transferring to an international school in China (have a look at this list for example.) That is what I did when I was your age, and I think it must have been one of the best and most life changing decisions I have ever made. It opened up a whole new world of opportunities for me afterwards, academically and job-wise.
