Daan Posted February 24, 2010 at 09:36 AM Report Share Posted February 24, 2010 at 09:36 AM I think that's a bit of an exaggeration, although Manchu is certainly disappearing. You can get in touch with the people behind Echoes of Manchu by e-mail; an e-mail address is listed here.

chrix Posted February 24, 2010 at 04:12 PM Report Share Posted February 24, 2010 at 04:12 PM The most important indicator for whether a language is dying or not is how many children are still acquiring it. Usually when it's below 30% people will consider it endangered. But generally speaking, the fewer speakers you have in the first place, the easier you'll end up in a situation like that.. trien27 Posted February 26, 2010 at 04:34 AM Report Share Posted February 26, 2010 at 04:34 AM I believe what you read is that there are only 100 native speakers. Big difference. Last time I heard, there were around 80 native Manchu speakers and one of them started to teach Manchu in China. The Sibe / Sibo were a people who speak a language closely related to Manchu in Xinjiang.
