student visas again!

Recommended Posts

I know this topic has been discussed already here, but I am confused about some aspects of the student visa.

I will be registered as a student at Nanjing University for ten months from October and I want to return to the UK for three weeks in February. I understand that student visas are single-entry only so is there any way of returning to the UK for this visit?

The Chinese Embassy in the UK said something about applying for another visa at the PSB in China, but they were really unclear about this.

If anyone has any ideas or help to offer they will be most appreciated.

Thanks!

When I was a student in Beijing for half a year and wanted to leave for a week in the middle, during the May holiday, I faced the same problem. What I had to do was get a letter from Beida explaining that I was on their course and was only going to be away for a week or two (there was a standard form for visa extensions that they stamped for me) and take that down to the main PSB office. Ther they took in the letter and my passport, and when I collected my passport the next week, I found they had cancelled the previous (very generous) year-long visa I had been granted in the UK, and replaced it with a new single-entry visa that ended the day after my course did.

I imagine you'll have to go through much the same (pretty simple) process. Just be warned that you may end up having a visa shorter than the one you originally had!

Thanks for your help- much appreciated! I just wish there was a way of sorting it out before I leave in October!

I wonder if it might be better to get a business (F) visa? I will be registered at Nanda as a 'senior advanced student' doing research, and so won't be actually taking any courses, and I could easily obtain a letter from the government department I will be researching at. Does anyone know the duration of a business visa, and whether this would conflict in any way with me being registered at the university?

Thank!
