Yezze Posted March 17, 2010 at 02:01 AM Report Share Posted March 17, 2010 at 02:01 AM So, i have to make a power point about travel to China for my Chinese class, and i need to talk about 2 cities i want to go to and why, for one part. Does anyone have any suggestions about what cities and maybe the whys (3-4), that i could/should use. As in City X, because you can see the Y (famous scene or building). I have already done Beijing, and i figured that this would be the best place to get accurate help for the other city. Thanks!
Meng Lelan Posted March 17, 2010 at 02:42 AM Report Share Posted March 17, 2010 at 02:42 AM Do they all have to be major cities? If so then do Shanghai and Xian. Someone once said to understand China's recent past, go to Shanghai; to understand China's last 1000 years go to Beijing; to understand China's last 3000 years go to Xi'an. Or at least that's how I heard it.
jbradfor Posted March 17, 2010 at 02:46 AM Report Share Posted March 17, 2010 at 02:46 AM At least you're honest about asking us to do your homework for us! I appreciate the honesty, most people try to sneak it by as if we can't notice. But still, the answer is no, I won't do your homework for you. But I do have a suggestion on how to get started. google "china tours", looked at the tour itineraries, find a city or two that looks interesting, and then go to wikitravel.com for more information on that city. yonglin Posted March 17, 2010 at 02:59 AM Report Share Posted March 17, 2010 at 02:59 AM If everyone in your class is giving the same presentation, you may want to pick some city "off the beaten track" to prevent your classmates from falling asleep. Certainly, people are going to present Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an and Hangzhou anyway. How about Lhasa? Kashgar? Dandong?
Yezze Posted March 17, 2010 at 03:08 AM Author Report Share Posted March 17, 2010 at 03:08 AM "At least you're honest about asking us to do your homework for us! I appreciate the honesty, most people try to sneak it by as if we can't notice." Well, i am not asking you to do my homework for me, i was just wondering if anyone has any ideas. The power point deals with a lot more than just these cites (25 slides more so far to be exact), it must be in characters (this is the hard part, i am in my 3rd year of learning online through MIVHS and we just started characters in January), which i have done all but the last 2... by myself. I have googled cities. 北京 was the easy one, i wrote a bit on each of the following: 北京动物园, 798艺术区, 天安门广场, he 天坛. In the time that i posted this thread, i actually finished my power point, i decided to go with 香港, which is now finished and i started on 上海. So i really am done, but if anyone has any other cities they want to mention, since i am going to China this summer, it would only help. Enough ranting. Thanks for reading/responding. " Although there is only 3 of us (online Michigan Virtual High School class), yhat is another good point, i thought about but didn't really know how to effectively search for. Tomorrow at school I am going to talk to my friend, who happens to be a foreign exchange student from China, if she has any ideas. Thanks for the input though. Meng Lelan Posted March 17, 2010 at 04:07 AM Report Share Posted March 17, 2010 at 04:07 AM oooh, I think I know the Michigan Virtual High School, isn't your Chinese course being run by the Confucius Institute there? They just sent me some materials the other day. Your assignment is similar to what I'm having my Chinese School class here do, they each have to pick just one city though. They picked Beijing, Tianjin, Harbin, Wuhan, Zhengzhou (someone is going there to teach English this year), and Hong Kong.
taylor04 Posted March 17, 2010 at 04:07 AM Report Share Posted March 17, 2010 at 04:07 AM I'd even say to pick a random, small city. That way you can see true China, blah blah blah, untouched by western culture blah blah blah
Yezze Posted March 18, 2010 at 01:28 AM Author Report Share Posted March 18, 2010 at 01:28 AM jbrad: I was being sarcastic, i can see how one could have thought that from what i said Meng Lelan: It is through thee Confucius Institute Well, does anyone wanna check the characters below for me, as in, tell me the eons of mistakes i made, and if you are in a good mood, tell me how to fix them. Thanks I am to lazy to type out the pinyin. Can you tell if they are make logical sense without it?
