The website above have attempted to do it, but the problem is they only show the character.I want each box to contain 1) character 2) pin yen 3) meaning in English 4) number Thank you. renzhe Posted March 20, 2010 at 08:58 PM Report Share Posted March 20, 2010 at 08:58 PM I don't think that I've posted this before, so here it goes. It's top 2000 simplified characters. Meanings and pinyin are automatically extracted from CC-CEDICT, and though I did go and manually check, errors are possible. top-characters.zip
chrix Posted March 20, 2010 at 09:09 PM Report Share Posted March 20, 2010 at 09:09 PM how did you take care of poyinzi/duoyinzi? I've found that pinyin-toolkit does a poor job of those with characters, usually opting for the reading that appears first in its dictionary, and not the most important one (sometimes, such a choice is hard to make anyways). (In all fairness, pinyin-toolkit wasn't really made for character look-ups)
renzhe Posted March 20, 2010 at 09:21 PM Report Share Posted March 20, 2010 at 09:21 PM With each duoyinzi, I went through the list of most common words using that character manually, and picked the most common reading/meaning. The alternative meanings and readings have to come later, with proper vocabulary acquisition and context. But at least the character is not completely foreign by then. Mistakes are still possible, I did this like 3 years ago and had it lying around on my hard drive.

arada Posted March 21, 2010 at 08:55 PM Author Report Share Posted March 21, 2010 at 08:55 PM I've already started designing my chart... (look at attached file) - Thanks to Renzhe! It's going to be very time consuming but i'm doing this as an artwork and something to help me learn. I'm thinking of printing it on A0. I like to hear your feedbacks... Shi Tong Posted March 23, 2010 at 12:24 PM Report Share Posted March 23, 2010 at 12:24 PM Hello renzhe, I assume you did this list YOURSELF?! This looks like many hours of very hard work, thanks very much for sharing!!!
renzhe Posted March 23, 2010 at 12:57 PM Report Share Posted March 23, 2010 at 12:57 PM The frequency lists are floating around the web, I used the one from Xiaoma Cidian. I scripted the rest using CC-CEDICT and python. The only difficult thing was figuring out which of the multiple readings/meanings to use, which I had to do by hand.
