Chinadoog Posted March 27, 2010 at 08:12 AM Report Share Posted March 27, 2010 at 08:12 AM Hey guys. I'm in the process of looking for a new job for next September and I'm hoping to find a decent university teaching job in Yantai. Can anyone confirm whether or not Zhii Fu District is a good area of town to live in? A university in that area might want to hire me. Thanks a lot for any information that any of you can give me about Yantai
yantai-fanny Posted March 28, 2010 at 03:04 AM Report Share Posted March 28, 2010 at 03:04 AM Zhifu District is the down-town area of Yantai. The nearest university is Ludong University. It is a good location for living convenience, with restaurants, pubs, and parks and you can get to the beaches by taxi in 15 minutes. doraemon Posted April 8, 2010 at 11:06 AM Report Share Posted April 8, 2010 at 11:06 AM Hey! Yantai's my hometown! Yay!!! Sorry, but I just got a little carried away since I thought most people didn't even know this city existed. Anyway, Zhifu District is IMO quite a nice place to live in(I live there whenever I go back to China ) Yantai is quite a lovely city overall, but it's a bit small compared to Qingdao and needless to say, the provincial capitals. But the seafood there is really good (although you might want to be careful due to recent pollution) and the scenery of the ocean is pretty spectular. It basically has everything that a city should have(shopping centres 振华、百盛、大润发..., McDonalds, KFC, lots of restaurants, a few churches, universities, primary/high schools, hospital 毓黄顶医院...) They do have their own dialect but it's quite understandable to a foreigner so you don't have to worry all that much. Most people will understand/be able to speak Mandarin. It's pronounced virtually the same as standard Mandarin (although nowhere near as much tongue rolling) except the tones are all swapped around and muddled up. e.g. 学校 Mandarin- xue2 xiao4 Yantainese (if that's a word) -xue4 xiao2 吃饭 Mandarin- chi1 fan4 Yantainese- chi3 fan2 It's pretty easy to pick up once you're there. Chinadoog, if you do get the job there, tell me what you think of the place.
