amarie018 Posted April 15, 2010 at 08:15 PM Report Share Posted April 15, 2010 at 08:15 PM Hey, I would like to go to China this fall and begin to pursue a bachelor's degree in Chinese. I have finished high school and i have a few months of mandarin lessons. I was wondering if any one knew the names of Universities in China that allow foreigners to apply with out taking the HSK exam. I heard that some colleges will not require it if you are going to major in Chinese anyway. I would like to start applying to schools now so please if you can list the names of the colleges...thanks ^^
Lu Posted April 16, 2010 at 09:59 AM Report Share Posted April 16, 2010 at 09:59 AM Do you mean learning Chinese in China, together with other foreign students? I think most or all universities that offer such classes let you apply without further diplomas.
natra Posted April 16, 2010 at 03:13 PM Report Share Posted April 16, 2010 at 03:13 PM At the school I attended, Nankai University, they had a College of Language and Culture and then a College of Literature. Foreign students often go directly into the 4 year Chinese program at the College of Language and Culture right out of high school. Most of them had only studied about a semester of Chinese before this if any at all. When I was there, I met several 4th year students whose Chinese was excellent. Their language skills were immensely better than if they had studied here in the US or their home countries. Foreign students who wanted to attend other colleges in the university had to take the HSK first. Usually that meant taking one year of Chinese classes at the school for foreigners to get the test score they needed, and after that they would begin their formal studies. Anyway, I hope this helps. I am also a foreigner and this fall will begin a masters program in Chinese Literature. Being in the country to learn about the culture is an invaluable experience that will be of tremendous benefit to you in later life.
